.357Mag from Buffalo Bore's website:

18.5 inch Marlin 1894

a. Item 19A/20-180gr. Hard Cast = 1851 fps
b. Item 19B/20-170gr. JHC = 1860 fps
c. Item 19C/20-158gr. Gold Dot = 2153 fps---- Can you believe this?!!!
d. Item 19D/20-125gr. Gold Dot = 2298 fps---- Or this?!!!

So, does this mean out of an 18.5 inch barrel, I can probably do a whitetail with a .357Mag out to about 100 yards? (I know, placement is everything, but I mean a humane kill)

When I saw heading, I was thinking "handgun" and going to suggest cuttiing the distance by at least 50% - if you were really a good shot.

But, with those fps from a rifle - preferably scoped - yea, go for it. Probably do fine on normal-size whitetail with one of the heavies.

On some of the jack-rabbit-sized deer in some areas south of us, even the 125's might be overkill. ;)

No whitetails in Taiwan...

BUT, might be heading back to the states for a quick visit in Aug or Sept.. (I'm an uncle now!! :D ) So visit my sister.. etc..

Depending on the $$$ situation, I would love to take my gf to go visit Oleg, and a few of my friends in Oregon, and Texas..

My friend's place in TX has wild TX boars (BIG ONES!! 300+lbs!) and Oregon has some whitetails... as does Pennsylvania...

As as the due diligence person... I want to know what I will need to make Bambi into dinner :D

Better check what's "in-season"

I strongly suspect firearms season doesn't start until perhaps October but more likely November
