I’ve been thinking about a truck gun for my Bronco.

As I mentioned above there is 20inch .44 mag marlin with the pistol grip style stock at my local dealer. I think that'd be perfect for your application. More power than the .357 and more capacity than the .30-30. If you want I can take a look at it next time I'm out there and see what model it is. I don't see anything like it on Marlin's website right now.

I don't think I'd invest more than about $200.00 for a "truck gun", since it will be subject to rust and possible theft. Personally, I keep a Romanian Trainer .22 in my truck at all times. It's a plain but rugged piece and only cost be about 80 bucks. You might consider a break-open shotgun of 20 or 12 guage or a well-worn, but shootable lever action 30-30. Just my $.02

... but really... can you have a stainless lever action out here in the western states and not get your butt kicked?

Yes you can! I have a Marlin Guide Gun in stainless, 45-70, it sometimes goes riding in the Jeep. I wanted a Stainless gun due to the durability in varied weather conditions. I've had several people give me "looks" but all you have to do is take it out so they can look at it and it wins them over every time....of course you show it to them business end first. :D

Kiddin' folks, just kiddin'...

Carry/Mounting Options.

There is a company called Truck Vault that makes a lockable storeage unit that although pricey is VERY well made an gives you a multitude of storage possibilities.

Now when I owned a Bronco I kept a Ruger PC9 in Waller lockable rifle bag either about the tailgate or the back seat. The advantage was with the grey Waller bag and a gray cargo liner it blended in to the point you could not see it. When I owned a Bronco with the spare tire inside I kept the rifle pushed sorta behind the spare tire.

My rig as the spare tire mount inside, but that's only temporary. That's getting removed shortly after I get it back out of the shop. I'm going to get a swing out tail gate mount for it... because well... that's where spare tires should go on these things. I like roof racks for smaller rigs, like Cherokees... but you would need a ladder to get the tire back off with a Bronco.

Yesterday I test drove the new engine. Smoother... still brutal and rumbly... but smoother. The power felt good. I don't think I gave up much at all. If the fuel efficiency is better, then this was a good trade. Oh, and it was a straight swap out work included so it didn't cost me anything. I'm only actually paying for other work with brake booster and steering column... Why the heck is a freaking turn signal switch over a hundred bucks? It's a switch.
I swear, automakers design these vehicles to milk you after the sale... Thankfully gunmakers are not like that.
Wouldn't it be great to drive a Springfield Bronco? Call them up... Yeah, my turn signal switch is feeling a bit loose. "Oh really? Well take it in to a service station... no charge..."

I was looking at mounting the rifle again... and I can see it going along the roof above the driver's side rear window. That way it's accessable from the front or from the back depending on how it's mounted.

I went thru a similar decision-making process recently, only I sold my Marlin 30/30 and Remington 7400 to put together a cut-down Remington 1100. The long-range ballistics obviously suck, but for short work I decided I really preferred the flexibility to push either #2 Buck or 1oz. slugs. The #2 buckshot would seem to be perfect for smaller critters within 50 yards (and most social work), while I can keep minute-of-deer :) sized groups (4"-6") at 100yards with the 1oz (435gr@1600 fps) slugs.

Just another perspective.

If I was in Virginia, I'd be thinking about a shotgun. But out here you have longer ranges. If I was to be perfectly practical, I'd be looking for .25-06 with a scope, because added to everything else for deer and Lope we have 200+ yard ranges as the minimum and then you got the little P-Dogs and Rock Chucks to go after.

Okay, I sent off the money and mailed off the FFL paper...
I have a Marlin 336CS .30-30 inbound.
It's not exactly what I was after - but it's close. I think this will work out perfectly well with some work.
Not much work actually.... maybe just painting the stock and a fluff and buff of the internals.

You've got a TRUCK for goodness sake!

You need a real Truck Gun! The standard hitch on a Bronco, with the right adapter, should handle a WWII surplus 37mm Anti-tank gun w/o any problems!

Who notes it's a might slow on the draw..
