If you do a search for "The Last Man on Earth" it is apparently public domain now and you can download and watch it for free, legally.

Wife and I just watched it :uhoh:

This movie is a tough one. It really is not for the "easily scared" of us.

Needless to say, I'll keep few extra guns next to my bed tonight :what:

I liked it. The CG "Darkseekers" were kind of badly done. If the movie had used more practical effects it would have gone off better.

Overall I liked it, but I'm really into the zombie/SHTF/post apocalyptic genre, but someone with different tastes may just say "Ehhhh..."

Read the book before, and saw the movie today. Was glad they differed enough to maintain my interest. As far as realism I must say our protaganist should have reloaded a few times after opening up full auto in the house on the vampires.

The Omega man is on my top ten all time list. And the chick he falls in love with is/was hot! I like Will's acting enough that I will probably see this on the big screen.

It amazes me that the studios will spend large on kids movies with CG and then cheap out on a adult drama flick.

And if the blood sucking zombies don't tolerate the light and the movie is updated to today's technology. How come Doc isn't toting a truelight with a flash gun from the camera store?

Just saw the movie.

I thought it was great.

Yeah, the CGI was a little hokey....but there really wasn't enough of it to make it look bad.

I loved it. It's an action movie.

I wasn't expecting "Unforgiven".

Definitely worth seeing in Theather.

Getting good reviews by both critics and public on Yahoo Movies....

Critics: B-
Users: B+ so far

If the Critics give it low scores, I'll definitely see it!!!

If they give it high scores, then I won't.

These are the people who said "Under the Tuscan Sun" was a tremendous movie. LOL. We have different tastes.

Movie also draws inspiration from "In The World, the Flesh, and the Devil (1959), when Harry Belafonte wanders the spooky, deserted streets of the city (an inevitable last-man motif), just before he goes utterly buggy, he bumps into beautiful Inger Stevens and the whole round of racial and sexual strife begins anew."

I saw it earlier with my best friend. It's a great movie. The movie really made me think about a lot of thinks.

With regards to the weapons:

- Why cover the Surefire with your hand? You're still visible.

- Why no night vision?

I noticed him cupping the light too (also noticed the light flip from the left to right side of the AR too a couple of times)...I figured if he strobed the light with his thumb or tape switch, non-gunnies would think his light was malfunctioning instead of a tactical decision on his part.

As for the NVG...he's lucky he had the AR, it IS N.Y.C. after all.

I've been waiting a couple of monthes to see this movie as I'm a very big fan of post apocolyptic moves, especially ones with zombie type creature. I'll be seeing it tomorow night after my last final! Can't wait!

Yep the Internet Archive feature films has a lot of older films that the copyright expired on, even Night of the Living Dead. In the case of NOTLD some prints weren't properly marked so files made from those prints aren't protected.

A slower paced film you might like is "Last Woman on Earth". No monsters in that one but an interesting film.

"The World the Flesh and the Devil" is another good doomsday film.

I'm hoping they'll do a good job on "The Earth Abides", which is probably the first serious Mass human extinction story. A lot more than one survivor, sometimes too many survivors can be a problem.

I saw it tonight, and I thought it was great. I too wrapped up in the terror of being the only one around and smelling like food to worry about CGI. The cities were very well done. As for the creatures, I personally think the problem comes from their movements. It doesn't look natural (for a human) and so your brain quickly picks it out as fake. Overall, very entertaining.

Reading some of these comments, I'm glad I haven't seen the original versions of these remakes. Seems like any time a movie is redone, people complain that it was different from the original. Maybe I'll be like that in 20 or 30 years when my favorites are redone in the 3D immersive movie technology of the future. :neener:

I saw the movie tonight(10:30pm) and was very dissapointed with it. I guess my hopes were so high and the movie didn't do it for me. The weapons were pretty cool and they had a great dog in it as well, but other than that it sucked! I feel like this was a "good" Blockbuster movie. just my thoughts.

As for those who are wondering how he got a full auto in NYC, in the movie Robert Neville was a Lt. Col. in the Army. so he probably had access to the armory. Being the last man on Earth, he can pretty much go where ever he wants and take whatever he wants.

I just saw it tonite. I liked it, but I was expecting more.

The CGI was very mediocre. The Night Seekers were pretty fake looking, the lions were absolutely horribly done.

I did enjoy the movie though, W. Smith did a very good job in his role. I've never seen Omega man or read the book, so I didn't know what to expect. But reading all these gun forums hyped up the expectations a tad too high :D

I saw it at midnight on thursday and loved it. I never saw the omega man, so I approached it a little differently than others. I thought it was very intense, and for the last 2 nights now, I've been having dreams about forgetting to lock doors or board up windows before 'they' come to eat my children, so I guess it was pretty good...

I think the '900 round' magaznie in his ar was bogus, and the 'incendiary' frag grenade that took out a room full of BGs was a little hokey, but I thought Will Smith sold the part well. It was kind of like 'Castaway' meets 'Resident Evil'...
