Still waiting.......

[To Quinlan] "Would you like to retract your hasty generalization now?"

Pitts - don't hold your breath.

I called Quinlan out on Post # 10 and he has yet to respond. :scrutiny:

Also, according to the article "[t]he accident was filmed by an audience member, and the tape, Paige claims, was turned over to the DEA. The drug agency subsequently "improperly, illegally, willfully and/or intentionally" allowed the tape to be disseminated."

The government didn't film him. What more than likely happened was the tape was returned to the citizen or the citizen retained a copy and the citizen released the tape to the public as he has every right to do. This DEA guy is a complete idiot to blame the government.

I read the lawsuit on TheSmokingGun - according to it, a private party videotaped the lecture, and turned the video (the only one made) over to the DEA. The DEA removed the video and audio from the "accidental discharge" part of the tape, then returned it to the private party.

If that is indeed true (and it wasn't turned over after the private party made a copy), it is totally the DEA's fault that the video leaked into the public domain. Though of course, it is still Mr. Paige's fault that there was an "accidental discharge" to record and distribute in the first place. :scrutiny:

If the guy was a college Footballer and had a little pro-time then ends up a Jailer, he is used to humiliation and chances are he is a bonified idiot. This poor putz has taken a few hard falls in life.

Does not add up

"The DEA removed the video and audio from the "accidental discharge" part of the tape, then returned it to the private party."

EVERY post I have seen of Rasta DEA Man shooting himself has both audio AND the negligent discharge. Either the above statement is false OR there was another copy of his Moment Of Fame. :scrutiny:

He is saying that the DEA removed that from the ORIGINAL copy and returned that to the owners, but that the DEA itself made a copy for internal use and THAT is what was released.

That's probably why Our Hero is suing the dot gov directly since they would have had to be the ones to release the tape, ruining his fabulous string of keeping foot surgeons supplied with BMWs......

I love the video. I cannot help but laugh til milk comes flying out of my nose. And sometimes that happens when I am not even drinking milk.:neener:

I cant wait to hear if he wins his lawsuit or not.

Interesting to see how he was a famous and well-known football player, who went on to do a ton of community volunteer projects teaching inner city kids about drugs, gun safety, gang prevention, etc. - and yet he still kept a low enough profile to be a successful undercover DEA agent?

My BS meter is pegged. I think the fact that he's an idiot is pretty well established by this point, but apparently 'liar' takes up a large chunk of his personality profile as well.

Man, that video still sends shivers up my spine every time I see it.

One thing I'll give him: he barely flinched when the shot hit, and he didn't scream. I'd have done both, and in great measure. Guess I'm not cut out for the DEA.

In the aftermath, I was very surprised that the school and/or parents didn't bring complaints or lawsuits against the DEA. If I'd been in that room, you can guarantee I'd make some serious noise. It's called reckless endangerment. Had I been the guy giving the speech ("I'm the only one in this room qualified to carry this Sig Sauer...") and I had a negligent discharge, I'm pretty sure I'd be prosecuted, and quite vigorously.

>I didn't find the video funny at all -- only tragic, especially since the incident happened in front of children, but more so in that it instantly becomes high-profile fodder for the anti-gun crowd<

Cool... then we can point out the idiocy behind their "cops and soldiers" statements...

That's funny right there....

You never say that stuff out loud...because, chances are, Murphy will be watching. I think this is a GOOD example for the kids, not a bad one. The guy humiliated himself and should just admit it.

I don't see how the gun grabbing liberals are going to use this to grab more guns, other than prove that LEO's can be just as dumb and unsafe as anyone else. It should be a mandatory safety video presentation on gun safety in the future. Bringing a loaded gun into a classroom of people does not constitute safe by any stretch of the word in my opinion.

I had the 10mm out the other day showing a friend. When I show friends my guns, I keep the loaded magazines out of the show n tell for just this reason. My friend did nearly the same thing and closed the slide with his finger on the trigger and not being mindful of the muzzle direction. Which is why the loaded magazines are not part of the show and tell process...EVER.

Au contraire -- a situation such as this incident is when the anti crowd makes statements such as: "See, if a highly trained, experienced law enforcement agent can have an accident like this -- we really need to keep guns out of the hands of all the civilians." And, having seen this video shown (in my presence) to a number of ordinary people, that's exactly the sort of statements I heard (not that I customarily hang out with folks who believe that crap).

its his fault that HE shot HIMSELF, anyone stupid enough to do that deserves to be ridiculed.
And I ask again: to what purpose the immature name calling and ridicule? Shouldn't we take the serious and reasoned course of simply noting to others, "This is why firearms safety is important; this is why firearms ownership is a serious responsibility, and this is why we pay attention to detail." Rather than calling the unfortunate DEA-mon a jerk, an idiot, stupid ... shouldn't we take the High Road and calmly be pointing out that even (presumably) trained people can be negligent and the consequences of mistakes can be serious?

I realize everyone on this forum is perfect and none of you has ever experience a negligent discharge (let alone a public one), but geez, how long can you keep crowing about this poor guy's negligence? (Of course, comes now his lawsuit, this must be another sure sign the Apocalypse is upon us.)

In the aftermath, I was very surprised that the school and/or parents didn't bring complaints or lawsuits against the DEA.
I was wondering this myself. I'd be charging him, and suing the DEA for sending an idiot to the school. Just about anything my lawyer thinks he can make stick.

I'm not sure if he was charged, but I believe that he should have been. Anybody else would havebeen charged iwth risk of injury to a minor. He should not be an exception.

That's about mine. Go read it.

Do you think anyone who has heard the story of the Glock .40 DEA agent is ever going to forget it?

I don't. I think folks will remember it ... because it was funny. His arrogance was funny.

Having remembered that hysterical and humiliating story, there's a good chance that many people will also remember to watch their muzzle direction at all times ... not because they're worried about getting shot, but because they don't want to get laughed at.

Seems to me it doesn't much matter how gun safety is preached, whether with grimness or with giggles. Or with both. All that matters is that it is preached, and preached in a way that people will remember.

No. I'm not perfect and no I've never had an ND.

I also don't go around shooting off my mouth about how I'm the only one qualified to handle a firearm.

As young as those kids were, they were smart enough to realize the guy had no business around guns as evident by the comments on the long gun.

The reason people howl when police or government agents do things like this is because we as private citizens are constantly reminded of how we are not trustworthy or qualified to handle guns by the thousands or draconian gun laws and attitudes and are at the same time reminded how professional and well trained law enforcement is.

The fact of the matter is law enforcement is made up of the same gene pool as citizens are and thus subject to the same stupid pet tricks and in reality not nearly as well trained in firearms handling as they claim.

He was holding life and death in his hands in a classroom full of children.
He should count his blessings that he didn't shoot a kid in the class.

If his stupid mistake keeps another cop from doing the same thing, then cudos to him cause the next time a kid could lose his life.

I really don't like the term "accidental discharge". It sounds too much like the gun can discharge on it's own without an outside force acting on it. Guns don't just discharge. When someone's finger on the trigger causes the firearm to discharge then it may have been inadvertant but not accidental. At least in this case anyway. It's clear he is blaming the gun for the discharge and may get away with it as it is unfortunately a common belief.

I find it amusing that he shot himself after displaying that level of arrogance. But it is easily offset by the horror that it occured in the presence of children. For some of those kids it may have been their first experience with firearms and may now have a very negotive/anti opinion or even a fear of them due to his incompetance.

He deserves absolutely no compensation for any level of humiliation.

You had a minor..

miss pelling there (corrected in red): This guy dishonestly claims "the firearm accidentally discharged".
