OK, I am new to owning my own Glock, but have been issued a Glock 22 for years. I just purchased a Glock 23 with factory night sites for off duty use. I have a couple of questions.

1. Are the factory night sites any good? What brand are they? Is the front site going to fall off like the plastic sites on our issued Glock 22's?

2. I plan on using the Glock 22 High Caps as reloads. How far out of the bottom of the grip do the 22 high caps stick out of the 23, and is their any type of grip extender device that I can add to them to make them look a little better?

3. What do y'all think of your 23's? Are there any upgrades that are recommended out of the box, or should I just grab it, load it, and shoot it?

4. I need some holster recommendations for the following holster types:
a. IWB
b. SOB
c. OWB
d. Mag Pouches
I prefer kydex, but leather is OK, I have used Fobus Roto in the past, and feel like they are OK

1. If they use Meprolights, you have nothing to worry about. That's what my G23 had when I bought it new four yrs ago.

2. I have no idea.

3. Love it. The best of the Glock series, IMHO. I added some skateboard tape on either side of the rear of the slide, on all four sides of the grip, and a small strip on the underside of the dust cover where my support hand's forefinger rests in a two-handed grip. I am cuttenly looking for an Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit with LE sights to do a lot of low-cost plinking and draw-n-shoot exercises.

4. IWB - lots of good ones. I use a leather holster for all my IWB because it flexes more. My current IWB is from High Noon Holsters.

OWB - For Kydex, Sidearmor is the best, Bladetech is next, Fobus OK.

SOB - Don't know.

Mag pouches - see the above manufacturers.

1. They're Meprolight vials, but they are staked on... some people have had the front sight come loose.

2. They stick out a little bit, not enough to warrant any kind of spacer, which is why nobody makes one.

3. I have a 19 myself, same size frame. I had to remove a bit of the trigger guard where it meets the grip for my hand to fit perfectly... now it's like a glove. You might consider some grip tape or Agrip for better gripping.

4.
a. Threat Solutions UCR
b. Glock Sport/Combat
c. Glock Sport/Combat (It's reversible)
d. Glock mag holders.

Yeah, I like the plastic... :neener:

I think the G19, G23 and G32 are the best sized Glocks out there for concealed carry. I have a High Noon Mr Softy for my G23 and for about $32 shipped, it is as good a leather holster as one could hope for... It's not a molded holster, but very comfy and unless you're hanging upside down, it ain't likely to fall out.

I have the standard non night sight rear and a Mepro front... It hasn't budged since it was installed.

As for the mags, just put one of your G22 mags in the G23 and see... There isn't much of a difference and all my fingers fit on the G23 grip anyway so the pinky isn't likely to get pinched in the way it might if you were using G22 or G23 mags in a G27.

I wish I could just stick the 22 mag in the G23, but I live and work in the peoples republic of California, and am in the very begining of my 10 day waiting period! That is why I am seeking info in preperation of actually bringing her home.

1- All my Glocks have Meprolights. They are by far the best that I have seen. Two of my Kahrs wear Trijicons and the dots are either not as bright or they are smaller than Meprolight. Just make sure whoever installs them uses at least blue loctite (many armorers are recommending red) when installing the front sight (which is held in place by a screw).

2- No extender that I know of. Sorry. Doesn't really stick out that much, though.

3- I think the 19/23/32 frame size is the best all around and I have one of each.

4- IWB: Don Hume H715M (www.gunnersalley.com). These are great and inexpensive but far better than average quality. As for your other carry methods, I don't have any recommendations (I almost always use IWB). If I'm not carrying IWB, I'll use a Backwoods Leather paddle (local custom guy - does good work, but he's not on the net).

DOH! Here in the comfort of Indiana where I have walked home with three new guns in tow on the same day, I forget that not all are so blessed.

:p

Like I said, I have average sized hands and I can shoot the G23 with G22 mags perfectly comfortably. If I carried spare mags, I would absolutely carry one G23 mag in the G23 and two spare G22 mags as refills... No need for a spacer for my hands.

Good luck.

Well, they have the pre-cut grip decals at Brownell's, but you can use stairway friction tape from the hardware store as well. It's cheaper, too (about $1.50/ft. for a 3" strip).

I agree that Mepro makes good night sites. I ordered my Glock 23 with factory night sites, and I am wondering who makes them for glock.

Great! Thanks for all of the help. I posted this same question on Glock Talk about 6 hours before I posted it here. It has been viewed on GT over 40 times, but not a single person has responded. That is why this place is so great!

Used to be when you ordered a gun with night sights from Glock, the gun came with Meprolights. Now, Glock has their own night sight that is, in my opinion, inferior to Meprolights. The Glock front night sight is pressed on using a special tool from Glock (will set you back another $50 or so bucks if you are a do-it-yourselfer). The Mep front sight is held on by a screw and, with a little loctite, is much more secure. I don't like pressed on sights and will avoid them like the plague.

Another night sight option you might look at is the Heinie Straight Eight Pro Slants. A number of people over at Glocktalk highly recommended them for my G20. They are a bit more expensive than Meps and the sight picture is different (you align 2 dots one over the other rather than aligning 3 dots as with standard night sights).

Island Beretta, yeah, Agrip is awesome! It looks and feels kind of velvety, but grips your hand really well, especially when wet(!), yet it doesn't stick to your cover garments at all. Much better than grip tape for a concealment weapon.

For a kydex IWB holster, I like my Comp-Tac C-TAC, for leather my Milt Sparks VM2 is very comfortable.
