I bought my first wheel gun

I just bought my first wheel gun. It is a S&W in 38 special. I thought it was a model 64. But, it is double action only. Everything I've seen online shows the model 64 is DA/SA. Can anyone explain this?

BTW, I took it to the range already. It runs flawlessly.

I just looked and I can tell where the hammer was cut off. It is barely noticeable.

Just so happens, the Model 10 or Model 64 S&W is on my short list of soon-to-buy revolvers also.

flip her open and take a look on the front. engraved on the front should be the model number.

Mod 64's are great revo's. I like to shoot golf balls with the one's I have and the actions are like "budda"

DAO explained

IMHO you have an NYPD DAO service revolver. In late 80's early 90's, before going to the 9mm s/a, NYPD mandated new officers to be armed with DAO revolvers--there were too many "it went off by accident" discharges from cocked revolvers. I don't know if it is one that NYPD bobbed the hammer and converted to DAO, or if it was made by S&W that way, but that's why it's DAO and no hammer spur.
