I just bought my first wheel gun. It is a S&W in 38 special. I thought it was a model 64. But, it is double action only. Everything I've seen online shows the model 64 is DA/SA. Can anyone explain this?

BTW, I took it to the range already. It runs flawlessly.

I also think you made an excellent choice in a first wheelgun. ^5.

Just so happens, the Model 10 or Model 64 S&W is on my short list of soon-to-buy revolvers also.

Yeah, and I think I got a good deal. It cost me $175+tax. Here are a couple of pics:

Great looking pistol. I buy every decent looking model 10 that comes my way. Doing my part in keeping our streets safe by keeping those evil things out of our blessed children's hands.

DAO explained

IMHO you have an NYPD DAO service revolver. In late 80's early 90's, before going to the 9mm s/a, NYPD mandated new officers to be armed with DAO revolvers--there were too many "it went off by accident" discharges from cocked revolvers. I don't know if it is one that NYPD bobbed the hammer and converted to DAO, or if it was made by S&W that way, but that's why it's DAO and no hammer spur.
