Hi all! New here, not new to firearms though.

Anywho, I decided to buy a CAI WASR10, picked it up in for around $550. I also own an Century SKS so to me that was no brainer.

First time to fire it acts as a straight pull for a whole magazine, only cycles once. That's not good. Take it back to a gun shop (not where it was purchased) and it's never good when the gunsmith replies "gee, I've never seen this before." As I suspected, the piston wasn't getting enough gas to cycle the bolt. However, he was surprised to see there was a hole at all because on the bottom of the barrel there was no machine marks indicating the hole was ever drilled.

I took it back to the place of purchase and they said they would look at the problem.

Now, I'm not sure about the Century warranty system but I'm pretty confidant I won't be paying for this.

Has anyone had this problem before? Should I stay away from Century in the future?

I've heard the same thing...which is why I think he's just taking it upon himself to do it himself, especially if the only thing being done is drilling a bigger hole.

Well i would agree until you said WASR 10, any negative conotation that someone says about that gun i will believe.

Sorry you got a lemon man

WASRs are GENERALLY good to go. You got a lemon. Sucks to say that (and even more to have bought it) but that's the nature of things.

Theyve just had a bad rep for a long time. Centurys most noted for canting sights and gas blocks or excessive magwell drilling. Your problem is an unfamiliar one but the WASR is known for being problematic

I had a WASR, sold it, bought an SGL-21 and couldn't be happier with my choice. They seem to be too hit or miss for me. They were worth a shot back when you could get them for cheap, but $550... no thanks. Good luck with yours. I hear some people are 100% satisfied with theirs.

I bought a 10/63, shot it for 6 months, turned around and sold it for $250 so I could buy an Enfield No 4 Mk 1. Haven't looked back since and am much happier with the bolt gun. Sorry to hear yours was bunk, but you're not the first to get a busted AK.

Century warrantee starts when the rifle is BUILT, not when sold. Good luck.
They changed that. Now it starts when you buy the gun. Too many people trashing them over the old policy.

Century guns are hit or miss on the quality side. I can line up lots of people who say they're the best just as easily as I can find people to tell you how bad their quality control is. I'd call them and see if you can get the gun fixed or replaced. Probably they'll do it you just might have to be a little persistent.

Keep us posted.

That's a bummer.

You could push the gas block pins out, knock the gas block off, drill a hole and put it back on in a last resort if no one will fix it for you. It isn't too hard, you just need a drill press and a steady hand.

Hopefully someone at the plant will rectify it.

This is bad advice. Drilling the barrel will cause metal to displace in the bore around the edges of the hole. This can and usually does result in terrible accuracy problems.

The problems seem to explain why so many WASRs sit on our gun show tables the whole weekend (and in local gun shops for weeks or months), and return for other shows.

There were a number (plus ARs) on tables for both days at shows After the 2008 Pres. Election.

The only reason I decided against buying any CETME "G-3" (.308/7.62) is because of the huge number of reports about serious problems with many Cetmes which were assembled by Century Arms.

Their lack of faith in their own products seems to be reflected in their unique warranty, which seems to show unbridled contempt towards their customers.
Best of luck to the OP. Did any of you guys watch the problems with a Century Tantal (?) AK-74, which "Sturmgewehre" posted on Youtube months ago?
Century was well aware that the over-sized bores (5.56 for 5.45 bullets?) made bullets "keyhole" at 100 yards.

I have a WASR that is flawless. Has run over 1K of Wolf rounds no problem. Shoots decent too..for an AK! Sorry to hear you got a lemon. Hope everything works out well for you.

WASR = what a ****ty rifle

Im just kidding! Most WASR are good to go, and they do have chrome lined barrels which alot of new AKs are lacking. Some takes abit tweaking to get them running but if 3rd world countries could get all their AKs running right im sure any competent American gunsmith can doo

Century Arms International- "Why Hire Armorers When Angry Beavers Work Cheaper?"

Angry beavers??

I could have sworn my local dealers had it that they employed drunk monkeys
paid in bananas and beer

yeah, most buy the weapons they DON'T assemble.
