I call BS...Lefties shooting Right handed.

Yes I agree if shooting lefty is natural to you do it, don't force yourself to shoot right, it is a mistake for most.

Not that anyone is interested but I am a mess too.
Eat, write, shoot rifles, bow or pool left. Left eye dominate.

Play ball or any physical sport of any kind right handed, right side is the strongest.

Handguns free hand with either equal, but off sand bags will right handed 99% of the time.

Grew up shooting right hand rifles left handed, Once I bought a LH bolt rifle I never looked back for a primary hunting gun. I still own and shoot RH guns but you won't catch me in a serious hunting situation with anything but a LH rifle, lever or action type that can be used by both equal.

The only gun that ever bother me to shoot LH was a early 10/22 that would hit me in the face often with a empty. No other gun has ever done that of the many I have shot.

What I have tried to do with no real success is shoot with both eyes open, I think that would have definite advantages over closing my right eye. Cousin shot that way when we were kids, I have spent many a hour and a lot of ammo trying to learn, all to no avail. Durn LOL

I'm a lefty, write with the left hand, left eye dominate and shoot lefty

But

I play baseball, golf, etc like a right handed person. My right arm is stronger.

I kick best with my left foot but can kick pretty well with both feet.

I've always felt it was crazy until I found most left handed people are quite ambidextrous.

I tried & tried to get my youngest boy to shoot right handed but he can't do it, he's left handed & left eye dominant. I figure if he can shoot lefty & hit what he wants most of the time let him be lol. I am left handed & can only shoot right handed, I can't even get a longgun into my left shoulder, just doesn't feel right. Pistols are diffrent, I perfer to shoot right handed but can hit almost as well left handed.

I'm left handed, left master eye. I shoot right handed, right eye for both pistol and rifle. I find that right handed shooting comes naturally, I do have to close my left eye when shooting which slows things up a touch when shooting IPSC.

I'm ambihelical. I can screw up with either hand.

Actually, the lens of my right eye was perforated about 40 years ago by a high-speed horse chestnut.
That means the left eye is default for long guns unless I use my prescription glasses, but I can shoot short guns and scopes right-handed.

I'm still getting used to the glasses... and the idea of depth perception. Everything was flat for thirty-five years.

I'm a lefty, but I'm right eye dominate (although I don't have too much trouble forcing myself to use my left eye when needed). Long guns I generally shoot left handed, but so long as I have a good forearm rest I don't have any trouble shooting rifles right handed. I took advantage of this last Saturday while sighting in my .30-06. As my left shoulder became sore, I simply switched around and started using my right shoulder instead. :D I am nearly ambidextrous with pistols, and almost exclusively left handed with shotguns because it's difficult for my left arm to support the shotgun naturally while swinging on a bird/clay.

Like geekwitha45, there are a lot of things I do right handed.

Stuff I do with my left hand:

write, any type of delicate work, catch, shoot, use scissors, pool/billiards

Stuff I do with my right hand:

throw, wield a knife (if I intend to use it in a fight, otherwise I use either hand, whichever is convenient), draw a bow, use scissors (learned how to use both early on, as left handed scissors weren't always available), bat, , use a mouse, etc.

Generally, if it requires strength, I use my right hand/side (except for kicking). If it requires delicacy, I use my left.

I'm all messed up!
I'm right handed, left eye dominant, but I find I can do many things equally well with either hand.

I can shoot pistols equally well with either hand, but I aim with my left eye regardless of which hand I'm using. This is because my left eye also has better vision than my right even with corrective lenses.

Scoped rifles I can shoot well with either hand. I find the scope's magnification will force my right eye to become temporarily dominant when shooting right handed. However, with iron sighted rifles, or shotguns, I have discovered I shoot much better left handed because of the better vision in my left eye.

BTW, I have always shot with both eyes open.

One of my brothers is a lefty to the point of if you tied his right arm to the back of his belt, he probably wouldn't miss it for at least a couple of days.

Unless shotgunning...he uses a righty Rem 1100, 'cause back then (1968 or so), I don't recall anyone making a 'lefty' semi-auto shotgun.

My dad is a lefty. He has always shot pistols left handed, but when I bought him a left handed rifle he told me to take it back. In the Army they taught him to shoot a rifle right-handed, and he has never learned another way.

I am left handed and right eye dominate. I shoot a rifle right handed and probably couldn't hit the broad side of a barn left handed with a rifle, it feels very awkward. Pistols I shoot equally well with either hand. Depending on the mood I carry my CCW left or right handed draw.

I'm a lefty who learned to shoot RH after about 40 years of doing it wrong. As a kid, I batted RH, don't know if that makes a dif. Anyway, it was not hard to convert. My main obstacle was strenghening my RH to handle .44 mag and larger handguns. Otherwise, just practice and "muscle memory". Took less than a month. I shoot much better as a result. If shooting LH works for you, ignore any advice to contrary. Not that hard to find suitable long guns.

I shoot well with either hand. I find that sometimes if you try to use the other and concentrate on the basics it helps to improve the dominant handed shooting as well. Besides, in a bad situation being able to function with the other hand is a good thing.

I'm right handed, Dad is left handed. We both shoot right handed, unless we need to shoot left handed. It can be taught, and is admittedly easier with a handgun than a rifle.

My daughter is 7 and for the most part she is a LEFTY, she writes with her left hand. BUT, she shoots with both hands, which ever one she feels like shooting with. She throws with both hands and kicks with both feet.

I'm a righty left eye dominant. I shoot long guns left handed, and pistols right handed. I always shoot both eyes open. I always use my left eye for the sight picture. My right eye has poor vision, but my left eye is/was 20/20.
That's almost exactly my situation, except my left eye isn't too great either. :D

Left handed, right eye dominant. I shoot long guns right side, but can go left with only a little trouble. I can shoot both eyes open on the right side, but I have to close my dominant eye if shooting on the left side.

I can shoot a sidearm on either side. The left side is more natural and faster but I shoot more accurately and slower from the right side. Both eyes open on either side.

This is a very interesting thread.

I am right handed but left eye dominant.
Then you should have been shooting left handed from the start.

You can learn to change to the other side fairly easily, but you can never learn to change your dominant eye.
That's just hard-wired in, and there is nothing you can do about it.

I think the eye dominance thing is more of a problem than the actually shooting with the other hand.

I switched from shooting right handed to left handed about 3 years back.

It really wasn't hard. All I did was stop shooting right handed and practiced a little. Yeah, it's a little awkward at first.

*deposits 2 cents*

My dad's buddy is right hand/left eye and is amazing with a shotgun. He leans his head clear over to the other side of the stock so he can use his left eye. Looks goofy, but works very well.

Telling someone to learn to shoot other-handed is a stupid response. That said, too many lefties make too much trouble out of their odd superiority. ;) I need a left side holster and an ambi safety(sometimes) in a pistol. Nothing else. As for rifles I am plotting a left-handed Savage build but have yet to own a left handed rifle. Garand, M-1A, AR-15, various bolts have never been an issue for me. I usually keep the gun mounted and run the bolt right handed. Prone is a dream, witness right handers who shoot mostly prone getting left bolt guns for ease of operation. Some mil-surps like a Mosin I reach over top.

The only time I've ever suggested someone switch was a first time kid who was right handed and painfully obvious left eyed. He kep turning his .22 rifle sideways, dad kept correcting, I suggested a switch to left shoulder, made everyone much happier. As it was his first session nothing was unlearned which I think is the big thing. I learned right handed golf clubs as a kid, cannot swing a left handed club now even though I am painfully correct handed.

My brother is right handed and shoots left handed. He does evreything right handed except shoot. Funny though he would rather have a right handed gun. I guess because he grew up shooting nothing but a right handed gun.

Everyone should learn to shoot with their weak hand. You never know when you are going to need to or have to shoot weak handed in a bad spot. Like a home invasion that the perp just shot you in your strong arm.

I'm a lefty, but I shoot right handed. My right eye is my dominate one. I have a good friend that shoots lefty. I always kid him about it. I can shoot left handed and bat left handed if I choose.
