$36!!!??? HOLY CRAP!

XD mags are $17.99 at Midway.

Not quite so fast... S&W replaced my mag catch and the problem was corrected... until I shot another 300 rounds or so and it returned. Now I've just gotten a 3rd mag catch... I'm hoping this does it, but the jury's still out. I believe the mag catch needs a much stiffer spring as well, but I see no option for that. Great gun otherwise! But a mag dropping out after nearly every shot, or every once in a while when you least expect it is totally unacceptable in a defense gun. S&W has a great concept going with the M&P and I'm hoping they can permanently correct the mag drop issue. see MP-Pistol.com, tech difficulties folder.

I have a friend who has a .45 M&P, and mags for it go for $41!

I have two XDs and love them both. They have both been 100% reliable with over 1000 rounds cycled through each. I have no experience with the Smith M&P, but I think they look more attractive than the XDs. I actually have a short wish list that the M&P has a slot on, but my tried and true pistols are XDs.

I can think of as many reasons to buy one as the other. However, I've owned XDs...love 'em!

M&P's I've shot were nice, and they're still refining the model. But I'm not running out to jump on the bandwagon until they're as mature as XDs.

Your money, your choice, I doubt you can go wrong either way.

Own the fulsize and compact M&P 9mm and have had absolutely no problems with either, no mags dropping out, no FTE or FTF, no walking pins, just 100% reliability through close to 3000 rounds between the two pistols. Did own an XD 45 for a while and was very happy with it, only a couple of jams out of about 500 rounds but sold to finance a couple of training courses and a comptac holster/mag pouch for my M&Ps. Have owned 2 Glock 19s and a 23.
these also were great firearms but traded them for a 350 for a pickup I had a long time ago. Will probably pick up another g19 at some point as I was very happy with them. I sugest you shoot the xd and the M&p and decide for yourself which one is best for you.
