I can only buy one gun for awhile. What should it be?

What should I get?

If you're even thinking about carrying it, it has to be a handgun. The M&P is a good pistol. Either that or get a used 3rd Gen Glock 22.

Sorry, should have added more info. I recently sold my CZ intending to buy an M&P Pistol (I Have 500 Dollars). However since I sold it Ive been thinking that maybe I might not carry it much and if not then there are probably better options. My financial situation as of now makes it so that it will probably be another 6-8 months before I can get anything else. I currently have no firearms though i have had pistols and a shotgun in the past.

A 4" or 6" .357 is arguably the most versatile handgun ever built.

--It can fire a variety of ammo, from "mouse-fart" .38s WCs to "full-house" .357 JHPs in 125 or 158 gr to 180 gr hunting loads..
--It can be used (very effectively) for HD.
--It can be carried (4" moreson than 6").
--It can be used at the range every day, with any ammo.

A quality .357 will outlive you and your children.

If you're looking for strictly one Home Defense weapon, shotgun all the way! It cannot be beat for HD!

With a $500 budget do both.

Get a Saiga for $330 ish from Classicarms.us or a guns show. And a p-64 for $170.00 from the next place that has them in stock.

Or get a S&W 5906 trade in for $300 and a $200 mossberg 500 from the pawn shop. Or splurge and get a g22 trade-in from aimsurplus for $389 and a new mossberg 500 from wally world for $220.

Otherwise, if you want to carry get a pistol. If you want HD get a shotgun. If you want to escape Detroit get an AK (in 7.62x39, the .223 Ak's can be junk).

I voted "Other" which means none of the above. For $500 bucks I would replace the pistol with a pistol. I would suggest the Glock G19 plus 4 extra magazines. G19 is a legendary pistol, ultrareliable, accurate for it's size, light and compact for CCW. Not saying the M&P is not a good choice but the G19 is the standard that other compacts are compared to. I only own 1 Glock a G34 for USPSA and IDPA matches, it is flawless in my experience. For a 500 buck poly frame pistol I would stick with the original, a Glock. Of your choices I would wait for something better, but if you cannot the Mossberg will be best gun for the money IMO.

A concealed carry gun. It should be a highly concealeable yet easy to shoot handgun. If you go with the M&P I'd get the subcompact. A subcompact Kahr, Kel-Tec, Glock pistol or smith and Wesson or Ruger revolver will meet the need to allow you to be armed 24/7 with a reliable weapon in a business caliber of .38 or larger or 9mm or larger.

IMO: I would buy a "used" Remington 870 + a extra barrel (also used) and be around the same amount that you'll pay for buying "new" a single firearm and have a lot more flexibility in use (hunting/clays/HD).

The 870 has been around for decades and quite a following with hunters and LEOs, and as such their are numerous accessories available for it.

Your dollars, your choice.
