I need some advice from the collective mind. I got a converted Saiga 7.62x39 for a steal, $419, several months ago and could probably sell it for $500 now, if not a little more. Recently I sold some stuff on e-bay and addiction being what it is I bought a VZ2008. For various reasons I like the VZ better than the Saiga. These are the only two semi-auto rifles in my arsenal. Additionally, I do reload but it is cheaper to buy 7.62 than to make my own (No, I don’t cast yet but will soon).

Now the question is this should I….

1. Sell the Saiga and get a Mini 14. The logic being that I can reload .223 pretty cheaply but also .223 would be a better round for my very dense urban environment. CDNN has a Mini for about $570.

2. Sell the Saiga and then build up my cache of food, water and medical supplies. I don’t see a long term scenario and would only prepare for no more than 3 months.

3. Need help with a Keep the Saiga as a back-up and stock up on more cheap ammo.

Here is my arsenal as it stands now:

Converted Saiga 7.62
VZ2008 in 7.62
Mossberg 500
Mossin Nagant
Marlin N95
Marlin 795
Hi Point 995 9mm Carbine
Bersa Thunder UC 45

I'd get more supplies personally, especially if you don't have at least a few months worth. You look to be pretty well set for firearms.

Personally I would never sell a Saiga to buy a Mini 14. Then again I'm a Saiga and overall AK fan and I've never liked Mini 14s. If you want .223/5.56, buy an AR for not much more. Or for an alternative a Saiga .223 or Kel Tec SU16.

4 of your 6 rifles are semi autos....

See if you can trade straight up for a Saiga in .223 or 5.45.
