Kevin, as a person very new to firearms, I am now informed and determined never to allow this to happen to me.... Thanks for swallowing your pride and posting about your experience!

OK, so say my gun does go "click", than what?
Do you guys carry a lingth of rod to poke down the barrel? (is this the "range rod" that i hear of sometimes) or take it out of battery (swing the cylender out of a revolver) and look down it :scrutiny:? the latter seems like a good way to make the RO pretty upset¿

Lesson learned, but you still have 3 weeks so can't you just get another barrel installed? Can't be that much money and time to do it I wouldn't think.

My favorite Ruger is on it's way back to the Ruger factory in New Hamshire !thanks for all the encouragement guys ! Yes I was encouraged by the fact that this revolver was not only intact but functional after the incident ! Yes it was indeed a cheap lesson ! i asked Ruger to examine the gun and give me an estimate for replacing the barrel with a 9 1/2 inch ! i probably could have bobbed the barrel back to about 5 1/2 inches , but thats not what I wanted !I will try to post a picture of the barrel later it looks like a snake that swallowed a rabbit !

i got a letter from Ruger the other day , the bill for repairing my SRH is gonna be $325.00 ! Oh well ! Stupidity should be expensive ! I learned a valuable lesson ! and I am just thankful nobody got hurt ! If I had been shooting anything else I might not have enough gun left to repair !

Indeed. A testiment to the strength of the design and the fact that you have chosen wisely.
$325.00 is a very cheap lesson to learn.
