Ok guys I carry a gun around the house well when my better half's sister found out you would have thought I was loaded for bear all the time I assure you I am not I do carry my ccw and a spare mag does this sound crazy to y'all.

I'm fairly isolated here at Rotha Manor, so I keep a small revolver with me around the house and on the property...not so much in fear of 2-legged predators, but because the occasional 'Yote or unfriendly stray dog makes an appearance. I don't worry much about gettin' snuck up on. I'm a hundred yards from the main road, and the Huskies will let me know that a vehicle is on the way before the rear wheels leave the pavement...and that sets off the dogs that are inside the house. (Yeah. The Huskies come in at night and in bad weather or when it gets too hot.)

The sign on my door says:

"I have two Pitbulls and a shotgun. Are you real sure you wanna do this?"

And I do have two Pitbulls, among others.

Half the time, I don't even bother to lock my doors at night.

But no...carrying at home isn't crazy. With daylight home invasions of occupied houses becoming more common, it's only good sense to be prepared to meet the invaders with force. If they get in and take control, it's not likely that they'll be kind.

A thousand guns in a safe are not as good as one on your side. For any type of preditor.

I pocket carry my KLCR Ruger around the house. It fits quite nicely in the pocket of the Nike basketball shorts that tend to be my around the house "lounge" wear without being noticable and gives me peace of mind. I decided to carry late one evening when I was VERY suprised & startled by a stranger beating on my door. It occured to me at that time having all my guns locked in my safe might not be the best policy. The little Ruger is easy to keep at hand, very discrete, very capable and very comforting.

Depends on your situation. This spring, a disabled Iraq War veteran was hammered and stabbed to death in his home by druggies seeking his medications.

It might be prudent to me, since most murders around here are either in homes or business by druggies after money or drugs, to carry at home.

Also I have been known to carry indoors to test my carry rig before going outdoors. I found my universal carry rig that carried a .38 snub revolver securely all day, climbing around a remote rock quarry exploring tunnels, would excrete a .38 derringer just walking about the house; nice to know before carrying in public.

Its crazy TO NOT carry a gun at home. I live in a low crime area. That doesnt mean I am unprepared for the worst.

It goes on when I get dressed, and off when I get undressed. I have a small child. The safest place for my gun where I can still have it to answer the door is under my direct control.

My neighborhood is working-class (actually, more like "working-or-unwillingly-unemployed-class") and crime, while still at a relatively low rate per capita compared to other cities its size, is high enough to warrant concern, and spread pretty evenly throughout the city.

Safety - If you are carrying it the firearm is under your control at all times and there's no concern about whether anyone else might mishandle it. This makes the weapon almost as safe as if it were locked up.

Security - Since threats rarely send an Outlook appointment or call ahead, carrying around the house helps ensure that you have the weapon at hand if the unthinkable ever happens.

Convenience - By carrying at home you become familiar and comfortable with carrying the weapon and it ensures that you don't have to remember it when going out.

If you're crazy then I am also. I carry from "pants on" till "pants off" every day. A S&W 642 and one speedloader is not that much of a burden...

What Dab said.

The one locked in the safe (or the one thats just out of reach) do you no good when you need it.

Your weapon, your home, your business.

But if you're crazy, I know lots of crazy people, myself included. ;)

You are CRAZY!!!

Why in the world would ANYONE want to be able to defend themselves against a threat, whatever that may be, that comes around during the day?!?

Your "better half's sister" needs to learn what firearms are meant for (much of the time). Maybe learn how to use one too.

Tell her to either [shut up] or go home where she can regulate her safety in the manner of her own choosing. If she doesn't want you providing protection for her while she's in your home she certainly doesn't have to stay there and put up with it.

FWIW - my SIL is pretty much a condition white blissninny, so I was concerned how she'd react when she found out I had a CCW permit and was carrying when we were all together here in CO on an outing. To my surprise, she was thrilled and relieved, and glad to know that protection was close with us. She was also disappointed to find out I couldn't bring it with me when we went to Syracuse to visit her. My wife's cousin in NY is a sheriff's deputy, and when I showed her my CCW permit I thought she was going to climb in my lap and kiss me! I swear to God she squealed with delight.

I carry in my house all of the time.

If anyone visiting discovers this fact and does not like it they are welcome to leave.

If anyone visiting discovers this fact and decides to Behave Badly (including trying to take me to task on the subject) they are welcome to leave and never return.

I always, always carry at home. I've had more weird stuff happen to me at home than out and about. It's just the area I live in I guess, but even if I lived in a safer neighborhood I would still carry at home. Threats are no less real just because you are inside your own home. In fact, home invasion is probably about half of my concern and reason for having a firearm in the first place.

All the men here with carry permits would kindly like you to forward your wife's cousin's phone # to them. Along with a picture of her. And a picture of her truck.

As to the OP, I see no problem carrying in your home, as long as you don't get carried away. Wearing a pajama holster or a shower holster is getting carried away. :D

It's funny, she's a real sweetheart, but her LE career was as a detective specializing in dangerous undercover work, stuff she can't even discuss. But if you met her you'd swear she must be a kindergarten teacher, she has that personality. But with a .41 mag. in her purse! And she's been married for years.
