I did a side by side by side gun comparison today

I was just on ca.gov site ***, what guide line are they using to certify or decertify a gun? Some are the same on the both lists.

There’s no real rhyme or reason how DOJ “certifies” handguns for sale. They allegedly “test” them for “safety”, yet (as was stated) it’s really just a way to end-around the 2nd A in order to get guns out of the retail market so gun owners will stop buying them.

I’ve had to teach several DOJ firearms division “experts” on various things about guns, plus you can’t get a straight answer from HQ on any question you pose, so I’m not impressed at all with the DOJ in Ca. (other than one agent I’ve met who is really sharp).

Stay safe.

Just a question, what guns are not approved in CA and for what reason?
Graft ,corruption and hoplophobic hatred of guns by the ruling elite and leftist voters of Ca. Each model and even color of pistol must be submitted with large fees and liabilities before being put on an " approved" roster. Last I heard the roster was basically closed as the non existent " smart gun technology" doesn't exist in other than in Utopian unicorn alternative universes

Not to derail the thread too much, but when I was in college I was also the manager of a gun store. CA DOJ came into the store to inspect our Dealer Records Of Sales or DROS paperwork. The agent began to look at our inventory and found several old .22 bolt actions with no serial numbers. He pulled them to the side and accused of of obliterating or removing serial numbers from firearms. I tried to explain that serial numbers were not require prior to 1968 and showed him that he was looking at rifles from the 1940's and 50's. He did not believe us and called the ATF. When the ATF showed up, that agent was to sure about it either. Finally they called the ATF office and confirmed that we were correct. That scared the heck out of me. I have never been arrested in my life and really wouldn't have a clue what to do. It is also scary that I could have been arrested for no real reason. Sure I would have been let go, but being booked into a jail is not on my bucket list. We called the DOJ to complain and they told us that if our records were in order we would not have been audited. We asked them to tell us when we were ever found out of compliance and they couldn't because we never were. I have about five more years and I am out.

As the manager and not the owner, I doubt you would have been 'arrested'...IMHO...

Glock 43X MOS:

This is a bit of an unfair test, as the 43X is a bit larger with a 10+1 capacity in a larger grip frame than the other two have.

Well, there you go. Not exactly an apples to apples comparison.

If the larger gun shoots better for you and you are able to adequately conceal it then why wouldn't you carry it?

If the Glock 43 is a problem to adequately conceal then it puts the other two in a different light. A pistol that you can conceal well while still keeping every round in the vital zone stands head and shoulders above a pistol you shoot even better, but cannot carry because it cannot be kept adequately concealed.

As a twenty year old being threatened by a DOJ official with arrest it was unnerving to say the least. I have been taught to help and respect police officers and my only interactions with them before this were with family friends or at my dad's work, he was a Chief Lifeguard. In retrospect you are probably right but it was still an eye opening and scary experience.

Let me EDIT to get back on topic and just state that I will be happy to leave and when I do, I will probably CCW my 43X as it fit my hands, follows the Glock pattern which I am used to, and has decent capacity.

True, and if it isn’t easily concealed I may not keep this as a specified off duty. I will be using it on duty to replace my G-34 once my holster comes in and I go through the process.

Since I don’t have access to a bunch of very similar guns to test out and write on, this was merely a comparison of a couple of firearms that I currently own and am considering using off duty. The G-43X I just bought is close, but not the same, as the others are size-wise. That’s why I mentioned what I thought was an advantage the G-43X had :).

For me (as much as I wish I could), in my position I can’t just carry what I like when I want to and then switch tomorrow. I’m limited to only a select few handguns so I have to be pretty picky. Every gun has to be an approved make, model and caliber, inspected, qualified with and documented in my work file. Every deviation or change involves hoops to jump through for me and one of my range staff, so I like to thoroughly shoot and evaluate a firearm before I make a switch. (Carry ammo also has to be approved.)

Since I have to go through all the hoops I thought I’d share some impressions with others who may be looking at one or more of these, or who may have one but are always checking out the offerings out there. I like reading about what us normal folks think of their new guns rather than the professional impressions of multi-year/many discipline shooting champions that get guns and earn money testing them for magazine articles. It also is nice to read how the other guns they have stack up and shoot in their hands alongside their new one.

Stay safe.

The DOJ teams of Ca. are notorious ! They make the BATFE guys look like Saint Einstein ! They get all emotional, very unprofessional and since they are anti gun very ignorant about the subject they are employed to persecute, this is from 30 years of watching them in action at dozens of LGS and individually.
