:banghead: All I planned on doing yesterday was going to the gun shop and ordering a CZ SP01 Phantom. I took my used Springfield XD .40 along for some target practice. After firing 50 rounds through the XD and about 30 rounds through other guns, I ended up trading the XD (that I've had for just over 2 weeks) for a used Glock 21. For some reason they delayed me for 5 days so I've got several days to sit around wondering what an idiot I may be. Although I did want another .45, there wasn't a thing wrong with the XD! And I still don't have my Phantom on order. These impulsive decisions are gonna make me old before my time!

You'll have to order up that CZ on-line where you'll have less toys to distract you. ;)

If it makes you feel better...I'd rather have a Glock 21 over an XD40 any day.

I almost impulse bought a used Glock 21 Gen 3 yesterday.... Would have been $418.95 out the door.

Well, I got a call this afternoon from the shop and I changed my order. I went with the CZ SP 01 instead of the G 21. Of course I have to kick in a few more $$ for the new CZ. I'll pick it up tomorrow. Have never been cleared so quickly. Usually when they put a delay on me it takes the full 5 days. I don't understand how that works...doesn't make sense to me. I'm very much looking forward to shooting it. I may end up with a G 21 one of these days but I really did want the Phantom. I can afford to shoot it more and I have yet to read a bad review except for the lousy DA trigger, but I'm guessing that can be fixed if needed. I'm glad they delayed me after all.

After trading a rifle some 18 years ago I determined the best way to eliminate regret was to never sell or trade any more firearms. It also makes new purchases more thoughtful as there's no trade to reduce the price.

Enjoy the new CZ.

One hour and 15 min. before the shop opens. I have 200 rounds of different 9mm.s in the car just waiting to fly down range. Haven't decided on my carry ammo yet. The Hornady's I have in most of my carry guns wouldn't load in my old 2003 CZ, but they may work in the new Phantom. This is gonna be a fun day. I think I'll go by the house and pick up the old BH 3 screw just for some variety.

It sounds like you just like to experience a lot of different guns.

The cheaper way to do this would be to reach out and find some local shooting buddies.

One of the first handguns I ever shot was a Glock 21, back in the late 90s. Nice gun. Feels big, but not so big that it effects the results.

I've not had the pleasure of shooting an XD or XDm in 45, but I bet they're better in a lot of ways than the Glock.

As for accuracy and ease of shooting well, I bet the Phantom is going to be the best out of all three. I think you made a good decision here, except that for carry, the P01 would have been a better choice.

In addition too, rather than instead of.

that might be a cool sounding plan, but alot of shooters in this country cant afford to do that

as a college student with 2 jobs and a tight budget, i have to think long and hard about wether i really want a gun or not, because one of my guns HAS to go before i can get another, that way my net gun budget stay as close to zero as it can

The SP01 Phantom WILL NOT disappoint you.

It has quickly become my favorite 9mm. Ok, maybe my BHP is my favorite, but the Phantom is a very close 2nd.

You were right. It didn't. I shot up the rounds I had with me and bought 100 more. One of the most accurate 9mm handguns I've ever fired. It's even better than the old steel 2003 model I have or the Sig P-6 I traded away. I fired over 300 rounds in a very short time with no problems at all. Very comfortable to shoot. I'm not all that excited about the DA trigger but with a little more practice I'll do fine. The decocking lever was also very hard to use but I think it will also get better. I seldom use it anyway. I changed to the flatter backstrap (which was kinda difficult due to the mainspring being a part of it) but I quickly changed back to the the curved one that fit my grip better and gave me more control. Not that control was much of a problem. Recoil and muzzle flip were not an issue at all. I'm extremely satisfied with the gun. Although I wouldn't even consider paying the MSRP of $695 (nobody really pays attention to that do they?), this is the best buy/trade I've made this year...with the possible exception of $150 NIB for the S&W .22LR target pistol. This is one CZ that's gonna get a lot of range time in the next few months.

Haven't decided on my carry ammo yet.

And when you do, I think that decision will be subject to change... often. :D

I'm the same way when it comes to carry ammo. I ultimately settled on Winchester 124gr +P Ranger T (RA9124TP). It's fairly inexpensive (or it was when I bought the last half-case), accurate and reliable. It also did very well in my informal testing against denim-clad Play-Doh. The recovered slugs are some of the meanest things I've ever seen. Twice now I've been pricked by the Ranger's talons while retrieving them from Play-Doh.

I carry the Rangers in My Glock 23. The 10 rnd mags from my older steel frame 75B work in the phantom. The metal mag box is the same, it's just the reccessed base that's different. the mags are interchangable. That was a pleasant surprise.

I tend to "rent" most of the guns I buy.

1. Buy gun, go to step 2
2. Shoot gun, go to step 3
3. Sell gun unless I really like shooting it, go to step 4
4. Return to step 1 or 2
