I don't get the alternating rounds suggestion?

HD Pistol and to explain......Use a shot shell for the FIRST RND ONLY and HPs after that.
That might work with revolvers, but a shotshell won't cycle a semiautomatic pistol. So if you have a shotshell up front, you have a single-shot, and will have to rack the slide manually (requires both hands) to get the pistol running again.

They will cycle automatics. It even sates this on the box and I have seen it myself. the only time i see it to be a problem isif youu have a VERY stiff spring. Auto loading of the second round I also see as chancy cuz of the sqare plastic tips, but they will eject and give you round 2 in the pipe

And the world was once thought to be flat... what's your point?

The point, which passed you by - Leadcounsel - is that what you are saying is not supported by any of the many instructors I know or the literature on procedures or even anecdotes of legitimate status.

Thus, your advice is really not useful for folks new to the game. Is that clear?

BTW - CCI shot shells don't cycle Glocks from what I've seen.

To new folks, go take courses from legit instructors - there is a lot of internet what if and hypotheticals in this thread that have little basis in fact.

The only legit thing I might consider is the birdshot load in the shotgun first as it is a critter gun and not a SD gun. But that wasn't the argument.

If anything is nonsense, this is it! A birdshot round is worthless in a SD shotgun.

One of my friends who has taken a lot of Awerbuck classes loads his 1911 with a FMJ at the top of the mag, everything else premium hollowpoints. He says that since that's the most likely place that a malfunction will occur, so he wants a FMJ in there for an edge in feeding reliability. I don't really worry about such things, I just load Hydrashocks throughout, but I can respect that logic.

LEAD....
You need to reread GEM's post before you comment.
IMPO... I cant see how birdshot is worthless in a SD shotgun. It may not be the best choice, but it will still do much damage and is better than nothing.
Still yet, GEM did say that is not a SD gun, mearly a critter gun.

Since this old thread was reserrected.... Here is my idea (not reading 4 pages of replies)
First in a revolver have first rd a STHP (for werewolves) second rd a HP with a drop of holy water covered with some wax (I think for Vampires) Third have fill HP cavity with wood (also for vampires) Then a FMJ (I understand iron works on some "things") The 5th and 6th just use standard HP for humans. You there have your bases covered. (or modify 5-6 for other creatures that I don't know how to kill) Maybe garlic? MIL hair?

As far as shotgun (when I finally get a sidesaddle) I load shotgun with buck and will put 3 slugs in it (sidesaddle as now they are on buttstock carrier with 3 birdshot used for skunks, critters)
I have in past carried different ammo in spare mags. Normally because I was lazy/in hurry and that was what was loaded in them.
The only gun I still load variety of ammo is a .380. 2x Corbon, HP,Hp, FMJ...
This gun is for arms length. Maybe one will work better then another. There is not much to start with. Still beats a harsh word.

Leadcounsel, as pointed out above - I said the birdshot first made sense in a scenario where the gun was being kept loaded for little critters. That was the role of the birdshot round. Duh!

I'm still waiting for your review of who recommends alternating FMJ with HP and when that was used in fighting through an attacking refrigerator.

I can assure you that I have attended some very serious training venues and have yet to see anyone recommend the alternation routine.

So you need to step up to the plate with policies or incidents that support your viewpoint.

alternating rounds slug and buck in shotgun, HP and FMJ in handgun

Self defense is a high stress scenario, lotsa things happening in
a few seconds. Keep it simple. No time to get complicated.
