So a couple of weeks ago I decided to buy S&W 442 for pocket carry. I had been carrying a Ruger sp101 and have taken a liking to pocket carry, but that danged revolver is just too heavy for it to be comfortable. I even tried carrying it in a jacket pocket but it pulled that side of my jacket down way too much.

Back on point, I shopped around and ordered a plain jane model 442 from Buds for $362 + insurance. I got the call from my FFL today that the gun was in, and I picked the gun up after work. I took a quick peek at the gun before filling out the paperwork, just to make sure it was the right gun, etc.

Apparently I didn't look very close! I got home and un-boxed my little beauty, only to discover that they didn't send me the model I payed for! Instead of a plain old S&W model 442, I got a 442-1 PRO with NO internal lock, factory cut for moon clips with 3 of them included! That same model normally runs significantly more from Buds.

I might just buy a lottery ticket after this!

By the way, does anyone carry reloads for their CCW in moonclips, and how?

Wait a sec, that's the one Bud's was supposed to send me!

Congrats, go buy the lottery ticket, you are on a roll.

If it were me, I'd call Bud's and make it right. You didtn' win the lottery, you accepted delivery on something you didnt pay for. Would you have gone home with a "plain jane" model if you'd paid for a PRO?

But, that's just me

I would at least make sure the serial # you got is the one they have on record as sending to you. It will save you and them a headache next time they do inventory.

If I were Bud's, I'd have somebody scanning this and similar sights every day for mentions of my company, my competitors, and related things.

I would give them a call just to keep everything on the same page, paperwork wise. The difference is what, $19? Probably not a big deal to them but for me, it would be the decent thing to do.

I agree with these guys about calling them & letting them know. They probably will want you to keep it but you definitely want to make sure all the serial numbers are correct. Do you know how much headache could ensue from the BATFE. Very unlikely, but possible. I mean, you bought insurance for the same thing... something unlikely but possible.

Absolutely call and ask-it is not a large fry vs. a regular you got.....you will be glad you did.

Okay, a little update this afternoon.

I just off work and double checked the serial number against the receipts and markings on the box. All the serial numbers match, and while the label on the box doesn't say PRO anywhere on it the SKU number matches the model I received, a 442 PRO. Also, it appears the item was drop-shipped from another distributor, as the distributor's receipt was hidden away in the box and it identifies the purchase as a model 442 PRO.

In other words, they gun that is listed is exactly what they sent me, no mixed up serial or model numbers. It appears there may have been a miscommunication somewhere between Buds and the distributor, since everything looks alright on my end.

Tomorrow is my day off, so any phone calls will have to wait until then, but nothing else looks hinky to me.

edit: the difference is more like $35, it appears buds raised their prices since I placed my order.

Ugh, if you feel the need to 'fess up, just mail them a check. Big companies are hard enough to get something from, and notorious for making returns a mind-bending exercise.

You'll probably have to fill out form 3744 and endure a reverse background check, all for $35 or $18 or whatever the amount is. My guess is they invoked their unwritten policy to ship an item of equal or greater value if the one the computer said was on the shelf wasn't.

I really don't think it's a big deal. If you decide to call buds, make sure everything gets done on their dime.

This happened to me once. I bought a olympic k16 or so i thought. When I got home i realized it was actually an ml2. About $300 difference. I told the guy at the pawn shop that sold me the gun about his mistake. He said "you're full of (a few choice words here)" gave me a wink and said, "enjoy your new gun sir and have a nice day."

x2 There was no mistake...they just gave you a little more for your money and I assure you that they knew it at the time it was done.
