I feel so... dirty.

I started out with a Glock (22C) then my wife bought me a 1911 for Christmas one year. I started shooting the 1911 more and more and the Glock less and less. I sold the Glock for another 1911 and haven't looked back. Every once in a while I'll think about looking into another Glock, but then I remember why I sold mine (grip angle, grip size, slick plastic grip, mags that rip up front and the rubbery trigger) and think that if I want a hi-cap something or other I'll be better off with a BHP. Still no hi-caps in my case so that probably tells you something.

For me the 1911 is perfect, why mess with it? I guess that's the question you have to ask yourself.

ETA: You might want to try out a P99 and/or an XD. Both of those feel much better to my 1911 hands than the Glocks do.

If it suits you, bring it home. A man truly doesn't know what he feels about a gun until he's owned it, shot it, cleaned it, cussed it, and praised it.

Ignore the advertisements, endorsements, t-shirts, and embroidered caps you see at the range. If you like it, add it to the arsenal. It doesn't have to be your favorite in order to keep it.

The Glocks did not suit me. My brother was LE and owned nothing but Glocks. I continued to shoot and evaluate what was out there. For me it ended up being HK USP that fit me best. But I am currently shopping the 1911 for an additional gun, not a replacement.

This sort of reminds me of a truck preference. Some drive Fords because Dad did. No reason to look at anything else, and if you pulled up in a Chevy you knew Dad was gonna look at you crosseyed. But you evaluate and ask around before making the investment.

I'm a Dodge diesel guy myself.

On the opposite end if you enjoy a Glock, like many who have dealt with them do, you tend to think other handguns have no soul at all, no style, and you begin to praise it for what it is... a totally reliable handgun!

Warning: it's hard to buy just one! :D

The fact that a Glock has no soul is the least of the problems. Far worse is the fact that since a Glock has no soul it will try to steal your soul.

This is a fact, you can look it up.

Ive been getting the same bug lately... I look at glocks online... and think 'their so ugly... but for some reason I want one' then I look at some at a gun shop and think 'their so ugly.... but for some reason I want one' then I ask the guy to take one out for me to have a look... last time it was a G19... upon looking it over and feeling it in my hand... My only thoughts were... 'thats a horrible grip ive held 2x4's that were more comfortable... and it feels cheap !! a 600$ gun shouldnt feel like this.'

Then the bug quickly leaves me, and I begin disliking glocks again, I dont berate people for their personal likes and dislikes, they like a glock a glock shoots good for them - GREAT ! shoot it and like it... they just arent for me.

If I was gonna spend 600$ on a new gun... id buy an H&K....

yeah, I've had a model 23 for about ten years...never been my favorite, sometimes wonder why I bought it, occasionally think of selling it. Funny, whenever I shoot it, I don't think about selling it for a while. Someone else hit the nail on the head--I don't love it, but I respect it. Just like my sledge hammer, it can sit unnoticed and unused forever, but if I pick it up, it will work. Just a tool, it isn't pretty and I don't connect to it on an emotional level. Don't want another one, but I'll probably keep this one...
That's it. Glocks have all the beauty and personality of a hammer- but they are just as useful and reliable.
If I had to pick a "favorite" pistol, it might be a Sig, or a 1911, or a Hi-Power, or a Ruger Blackhawk.
If I had to pick one to carry on my waist everyday...it would definately be a Glock. Probably a generic 23 in .40 cal, same as everybody else's.

1911's are beautiful and Glocks are ugly - which is a good reason to have one.
I CCW my ugly Glock 29 because I don't have to worry about scratching the frame or something like I would with an attractive gun, like my DW-CBOB!
Glocks are also reliable, functional weapons. There is no shame is carrying "tactical tupperware".

Give the Glock a try.

What other pistols have 29, 31, and 33 shot magazines available for them? I say get a Glock, preferably a model 20. :D It just may be the only pistol you'll ever need. :D :D Although I absolutely fell in love with the Para Ordnance LDA 14-45 upon first holding and dry firing it. I wonder how a 16-40 converted to 10mm would stack up against a G20?

It is my opinion that if one bases his choice of self defense gun on if it has a "soul" or if it is pretty or not then he has a serious mental problem.

It seems to be more logical to me to chose a cary gun based on reliability, performance and quality rather than looks.

But I am just a dumb hillbillly. What do I know?

My Glock 20 conceals well in a Summer Special, is accurate and reliable as sunrise, and packs 16 10mm DoubleTap rounds w/ 165gr Golden Saber @ 1425, or 180gr Gold Dot @ 1300. My 1911s (Colt and Kimber) are in the safe, either a G20 or a G31 is on my belt.

There is nothing more reliable than a Glock; it has few parts, which means few parts to break - about half of what other guns have. Its lightweight. And high capacity. No safeties to fiddle with during the most important 5 seconds of your life. You have to try very hard to make one rust. Can be detail striped in about a minute with no tools. And they aren't costy.

I like my pretty guns that have "soul" - 1911s, CZs, Sigs, HPs, etc. But if I image trying to stop someone from harming my boys, I want a Glock in my hand. Thats why I own 11 of them. :p

best regards

me

You know, I don't know you from Adam, but as soon as I saw the subject line I thought "he must have bought something plastic."

wecome to the glock family, let the force be with you :D for all those who says glocks have no soul, i kind of like have a devil on my hip

JMB was watching over me. I had no money and the urge has passed, for now. I better stay away from people shooting Glocks at the range though. I might want to try another 'un. Besides, I have too many other thangs on my list. Need a shotgun of some sort, a S&W 28, a CC piece, plus accessories for all that(Need a bipod for the CETME, a sling, more magazines, need a holster for the revolver and the CC piece, magazine extention and 20" barrel for the shotgun, a sling, a side-saddle...). And I bet I done forgot somethin'. And I'm broke. Only one thing to do: become heavily in debt. :D
