Now I know why you can't find 22's no where, the squirrel hunters shot it all up...:)

The Indiana DNR, along with several other associations sponsored a Youth Squirrel Hunt this mourning. They had 30 kids and I think they killed close 100 squirrels. A lot of outstanding dog work. When they got back to the clubhouse, they had the kids skinning and barbecuing the squirrels. Never seen so many happy faces.

If only those lil tykes had anything to do with .22LR ammo "unavailability", I'd accept that gladly.

In fact, that would make it completely worthwhile.

Let's do our best to ensure the politics and greed of those far older than them don't drastically affect their ability to enjoy the same things "we" did at that age.

Thats awesome and looks like a lot of fun.... maybe next year they'll sponsor one for adults lol. I'd go.

I went squirrel hunting twice this year and struck out both times. I didnt miss any (because I didnt shoot). I went later season on public land.... the few squirrels I did see I think were smart enough to survive the early season and had been educated. They disappeared whenever I got within about 50 yards.

The dog on the left looks a little leery of the kid in the middle pointing a gun at him..........

Was the kid in the middle really using a BX25 to hunt squirrels?
Yep. They called him "banana clip". He shot the most and killed the least.
On one of those drops, they cut the dogs into a small patch and they fired in there and slammed a tree about 60 yards in. The group went shuffling into the tree along with the two adult handlers and guide and I stayed back and stood by the truck. All th sudden there was enough shooting to take out an entire division. Purty soon the kids came walking back out and I said "where's the squirrel?" This one little boys say "Oh, he done got clean away".
These kids hunted for four hours. Can't remember the last time I enjoyed myself so much. Safety was the major thing stressed but there wasn't a lot of rigid control exerted. It's about kids being safe and having fun.
The DNR sponsored this event. It drew 30 kids. We prolly need a lot more if these types of events I'm thinking.

I don't think I have shot 50 rounds of .22 rifle in the last 20 years. But I have managed to pick up several thousand in the last couple of years and everyone of them went to kids. Glad I coud help out with the shortage.

The young man standing has that "Bring it Mr. Squirrel" look in his eyes. ;)
