I finally passed up buying a pre-war M&P that was offered to me at a gun show! I may finally be in recovery. The fact that it had a non-original hammer and about 50% nickel finish had nothing to do with it, I swear! I spec'd out the gun, perhaps not QUITE as thoroughly as Jim March's guidelines, but well enough to satisfy myself that the gun was a shooter. I demo'd the two cylinder notches that were just a hair out of time for the owner, who thanked me profusely. And then I just walked away. I even amaze myself, sometimes.

Of course, 2 days later an acquaintance came snuffling around, looking to pick up a "truck gun". The ol' M&P woulda been perfect. Maybe I ain't so bright, after all.....

I bought one from a pawn shop a couple of years ago for $85.00, and it was blue and mint, a 1948 model. After the sale, I questioned the shop owner as to how he priced his items that were being sold out of pawn, and he said he multiplied the loan by 4 and added $5.00 for "handling".

I don't have any problem with that.

He is either loaning more or has wised up, for there doesn't seem to be any more bargains in his store like the one I got.

The nice thing about S&W 1905/Military&Police Hand Ejectors (a.k.a. "model 10) is that they're so many of them. If you pass one up today it won't be long until another one comes along. Just keep looking and you won't miss the one you passed up for long.
