I finally passed up buying a pre-war M&P that was offered to me at a gun show! I may finally be in recovery. The fact that it had a non-original hammer and about 50% nickel finish had nothing to do with it, I swear! I spec'd out the gun, perhaps not QUITE as thoroughly as Jim March's guidelines, but well enough to satisfy myself that the gun was a shooter. I demo'd the two cylinder notches that were just a hair out of time for the owner, who thanked me profusely. And then I just walked away. I even amaze myself, sometimes.
Of course, 2 days later an acquaintance came snuffling around, looking to pick up a "truck gun". The ol' M&P woulda been perfect. Maybe I ain't so bright, after all.....
