About 11 years ago I was 21 and thought who needs to keep auto insurance paid up? Well by the time the law caught up with me my license ended up suspended. How did the law catch up with me? They found my truck in the side of a tree in the middle of the night, I was lucky that I wasn't there when they found the truck. Long story short I came back to NY with a promise of pending tickets. I left the Mass state troopers with my address and that was the last I heard. Fast forward 11 years and I am now a father, husband and gainfully employed for many years with a good union job. I have had several background checks over the years and that issue in Mass never showed up anywhere, I even took care of my license and registration after I came back to NY and a couple of weeks ago I received my concealed carry permit in NYS without issues. I went to transfer a 9mm onto my permit and failed the NICS check. ***?!?...I appealed the decision and they notified me in writing on Saturday that I was denied because I was a "fugitive from justice". Guess what, my idiot youth just came back to haunt me. Mass issued a default warrant back in 2003 for a missed court appearance. My wife and I left our home at 3:15am and drove to Greenfield Mass and had every thing dismissed as well as the warrant canceled by 10:30 am with not so much as a court fee. Spoke with customer service at NICS today and they said I'll be able to transfer a gun with no issues once the records are updated in Mass. I can't believe I was able to get a ccw permit in NY with an issue like that pending. I got luckier than I had a right to. Not all hope is lost for gun owners I guess, thought you guys would like a positive story for a change.

Well I am delighted that things worked out so well, but you'd have a bigger problem here in Arizona 'cuz we don't have any permit you could transfer a firearm to. :neener: :D

Oh how lucky you folks are, some day I will leave this strange world called "New York" for a place that is more like the planet Earth.

Sometimes during the winter I wander around a big-box store parking lot and look at the license plates. A fair number are from your neck of the woods.

While we would just wish some of them would just go home, those with an attitude and perspective like you have are very welcome. Do come down and at least vist.

Oh, and if you do bring your hardware. Even though you are from NY no permits or licenses are required, and you can both open or concealed carry.

A loaded handgun in your car is quite legal, but don't leave it out where anyone can see it unless you want a broken window.

We even tolerate (legal) machine guns. ;)

Can I find big woods and snow from time to time? I do like the colder climates, of course climates where a persons rights aren't infringed upon is even better. All I need is a place to run my chainsaws and shoot my guns to be happy.

I believe the name of that place is.... "Vermont".:D

Absolutely! Arizona is not all desert. The higher elevations get snow in the winter and have oak and pine forests. The climate is dictated by how high up you are.

What you really need to do is come out, visit a bit, and look around. ;)

I'm a long haul trucker. One of the worst blizzards I have ever been in was Flagstaff. So yeah, it snows there. Plus Arizona has one of the greatest sights in the world the Grand Canyon which everyone should see before they die.

I assume you have a document of some sort that says you and Mass no longer have any outstanding issues.

First thing I made sure I had. I called down there today and it's already cleared in the Mass puter system.

So the permanent record your elementary teacher talked about really does exist!

Luck has little to do with it. We Arizonans tend to be very diligent where our rights are concerned. ;)

Our largest issue here is a little city south of me by several hours that carries a lot of voting power. I vote and I preach voting but the shame of it is not enough do.

With all the crap I hate about NYC. When I left, I went to my local police precinct, and they shipped my pistols free of charge to a Captain who I knew in Jupiter. As long as you had a NYC carry, they provided that service, they came in a week or so after I got here.

Don't suppose you're talking Tucson? Being a local, I'm not sure I get your reference...
