Recieved my permit Thursday, Picked up pistol on Friday and headed to the range today (Saturday). On my way to the range I stopped at a friends diner to pick up lunch, and that's when one of his customers came to the cashier station to ask him a question, while doing so, the customer stepped around me and put his hand on my back (and on my pistol) to maneuver around me. He just pulled his hand away quickly and returned to his booth. I'm sure he was surprised/scared since I live in a not so gun friendly part of NY.

Screw him. That reminds me....While I was at Walmart unloading a few boxes of clay pigeons and more than a few boxes of shells at the register (my cart was literally full), I got this feeling in my gut so I look up, the lady behind me was giving me a death stare like no other. I tried as hard as I could to not say anything.
Some times you just gotta smack a h*, but other times you just have to smile back and watch them get even more imflamed and uncomfortable.

That death stare might have been her normal face. Now don't you feel bad for making fun of her? hehe

No touching allowed! Eventually you will learn to position yourself. Nobody has discovered me carrying yet. I can even do hugs :)

No one touches me.* It's a good policy.

I had no Idea that he was going to put his hand on my back, if I thought it was at all likely, I would have made sure that I moved. The last thing I wanted was anyone to know I was carrying, especially in the area I live in. Very Anti-Gun.

Unfortunately, this happened on your first day out, and now I'm afraid you'll be scarred for life. :neener:

Don't sweat it, assuming youv'e got good concealment gear and technique, and can resist the urge to fiddle with your piece through your clothes, being "made" is very, very rare.

Were you carrying small of back? Or were you carrying on the hip and the customer just caught you with your arms up?

One thing I like about carrying on the hip (either just behind or just forward) is that your arm naturally hangs between the gun and friendly people who like to touch and hug. The other thing I like about it is in the odd event you do get into a retention struggle over a concealed holstered weapon, you are in a much better position for the fight.

I remeber my first day out with my CCW. I had a HK USPc .45 OTW under a buttonup shirt. The day turned warmer than I thought it would and I was making my last errand before going home and dropping off video rentals. I unbuttoned my shirt because it still concealed and I was just getting out of my truck long enough to drop the videos through a slot on the front of the building. As I was walking from my truck to the front of the building a big gust of wind came and whipped my shirt up and exposed my carry. Everyone in the store seemd to be looking at the right moment and see some guy walking towards them with a gun on his belt. :what: I swear at least half of them had a look of terror on their face until I started to walk away after dropping off the videos.

Live and learn. I have gotten much better since then.

I was carrying in the small of my back, unfortunately I'm overweight so the gun is more visible while on my hip (Damn Love Handles). I'm still looking for a better holster which fits my Sigma, right now I'm using the Uncle Mikes IWB holster.

Get a good belt and a good holster, preferably IWB. You can carry IWB if you dress around it - I have no problems. I looked at everything available and picked Brommeland gear and have worn it for 3 years now with no problems. If "love handles" prevented IWB not many of us could carry that way! :)

Joe, the Sigma will fit in holsters made for the Glock 21, so that should make it easier to find a good carry holster.

It's unlikely in my opinion that you were made - people carry pagers, cell phones, and all kinds of stuff on their waist area. The fact that he removed his hand quickly may have had nothing at all to do with him recognizing what he was touching.

I wouldn't be concerned at all.

He may have been embarrassed thinking it was a medical device. Thats my predetermined answer if I ever get made. Haven't used it yet, but I think its a good reply.

If you have a permit (In New York yet!) I wouldn't worry, but in warm weather I would switch to a .38 snubby in a pocket holster. It will be better concealed and easier to explain (keys, change, etc).

Middle of the back is not a particularly good spot for concealment; TV shows not withstanding, and miserable if you sit very much.

"...Recieved my permit..." It's called a 'permit' for a reason. You're legal so who cares if somebody sees or feels your carry piece?

Sunray - perhaps because it's a concealed carry permit and some parts of the USA have restrictions on open carry?

I can't answer for the original poster - but when I carry concealed it really bothers me to reveal that carry inadvertantly.

I use a deep tuck IWB Crossbreed and like it, granted it is the only holster I ever used. I wear it at 2-3 o'clock, i'm a big guy, and it works tucked or untucked. Like BR said witha hip carry your arms are at your side and can block bad touches.

In NY state it must be concealed .I agree with that completely .There are too many hysterical sheeple around .We had a shooting in a mall in this area a year or two ago .Someone seeing a gun in a mall is going to scream !!!

I to had that Wal-Mart experience a few years ago when my son was three , he had a pop gun he had picked out that was attached to a piece of cardboard, he was riding in the cart looking it over and cocking it every now and then , a woman goes by and looked at what he was doing , she gave me the meanest look and said to her friend with the eyebrow ring, 'did you see what he was letting his kid play with? A toy gun!
Lord have mercy on me.

Who cares.

a hundred years ago if he would have seen you unarmed he would have had the same reaction. What happened?

My Sigma rides in a Bianchi Minimalist OWB holster. Works well with a cover shirt.

Don't worry about it... it will happen from time to time. I generally hear a clunk when it hits a wall or table some times. :what:
