I need to find out when it was produced. I don't have the serial number here at work, but will tomorrow. I think it is a 1978 vintage. It is NIB never fired and has most if not all standard accessories, which is a surprise! It is the cloapseable stock carbine, ala M177E2 but has the birdcage flash hider.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Found that pic on XDTalk...

I wish I could help with your question.

If it has the collapsible stock is is a CAR SP-1 and in my opinion the best thing Colt ever made! I have had one since 1977 and it for the longest time was the only short upper I could get working! It ALLWAYS worked! Even before I found out how I was supposed to lube an AR! Those things only weigh 6 pounds and are the hot set up IMHO!

Cool gun,fer sure !! I bought one in 1983 or so, and sold it last year for a butt-load of money. I'm going blasting tomorrow with an old buddy that still has his. Can we ask what you paid for it ?

Yes, colapseable, and I will have pictures tonight at least one! It is NIB form the late 70s as far as I can get out of others on the serial number. And has most if not all the standard accessoires and is for sale actually. Or will be.

WOW!!!! i AM SPORTING some wood right now...
pencil bbl(my fave), shorter setup bbl, short handguards, no forward assist,
origional collapsible stock. If that thing could fire full auto, I would be in luuuv...

Nice!

Lightweight barrel - Check
A1 Upper sans FA - Check
4 Position aluminum stock - Check
Slabside lower - Check

Very retro.

Screw on one of those slip over CAR-15 flash suppressors that Bushmaster sells and you'd have a real nice XM-177/CAR-15 clone.

Those are nice, accurate shooters. Had one for a while and really enjoyed it. Mine loved PMC 55 grn FMJ of all things.

I am really starting to love it but have yet to shoot it. I am now thinking if I can't get what I want for it money wise, I will be very happy to keep it forever....thanks for the kind comments guy's!

Just sealed the deal, and am going to keep it. I am also getting (today) the standard scope which is either a 3x or 4x with bullet drop compensator which was the only thing missing from the accessories in the box. It's new too and did come in THIS box.

Well you can go to the Colt website and search the serial # series That'll give you the production Dates. I did that for a Old Colt Pistol I gave to my Nephew. (It was a 1905 Colt special 38 Army) You'll need to wander thru their website to find the right link. I know it took Me a while to find it. Or just send a E Mail to the webmaster.

I believe the earlier ones were made in USA and the later ones are marked "Japan"
Then there are the standard recticle and inverted recticles
