I took my daughter and one of her friends to the range on Sunday and we had a great time. Now my daughter has been shooting since she was five and has been competing in CAS since she was nine, so going shooting really isn't all that big a deal for us/her anymore. We hadn't been shooting all summer, no Cowboy action shooting even, so I decided it was just time to go and have some fun. Instead of the usual Cowboy guns I packed up 2 AR-15's, two Glocks, the Mossberg 590 and a couple 22's. The 22's, one Ruger mark II and a Ruger 77-22 were pretty much for her friend who had never shot before. First, let me say that her friend, Emily had a great time and shot very well with both guns. Take a newbie shooting.:D

So, after we had gotten her friend situated it was time for Christina to shoot the Glock 23 for the first time. Now Christina is a good shot with a pistol but she has been shooting light loaded 32s for the last few years so the recoil of the 40 surprised her at first. She could hardly even hit the paper and I told her that she was flinching but, as usual, I couldn't possibly be right. So, after watching her for quite some time, I slipped her an empty gun and proved that I was right. I had her repeat the dry fire exercise several times and then slipped in a live round and, of course it went right where she aimed.:D After that she did very well. She took to the AR right away and really liked it. As I said I have two and she only fired the 16" heavy barreled gun with open sights, off hand of course, at about 30 yards. Trust me we could have stretched this out waaay past that had we had the time. Her groups were right in there with mine and, without braggin that ain't too shabby.:D After a while she picked up the 22 rifle and was shooting off the bench at 50 yards. She was breaking the pushpins.:D I had set up a 22 swinger about 25 yards out and she started hshooting that off hand with 2 hands and, at first was doing very well until she got sloppy and was starting to get frustrated. I told her that she just needed to slow down aim a little more. To illustrate my point, I shot the pistol one handed and went 5 for 5. So what does she do, she starts shooting one hande and concentratrating more and was hitting 60%-80% of the time.:D Like I said it was a great day. A friend of mine was there and when she was breaking the pushpins with the 22 I turned to him and said, " I don't need any DNA test to know that she my kid". He smiled and agreed that she was shooting "damned good" and added that the rifle was capable of it. Now I gotta tell ya that while it is indeed a good rifle, shooting 1/4" targets at 50 yards with a 22 is damned good for most anyone, myself and my friend included.:D
