I was speaking to one of my old high school friends online. She is one of those liberal types and lives in AZ. So here is a remnant of our AIM conversation we just had:

Girl: oh, guess what!
Girl: today, at school

Andrewsky89: k

Girl: a girl came to our table asking for signatures for a petition against that bill that will allow people with cwps to carry guns on campuses
Girl: and i was like, "hey, i have this friend who's totally excited about that bill!"
Girl: and then i signed it

Andrewsky89: I'm going to go ahead and block you now.

Girl: lol

Andrewsky89: I'll reconsider in a month
Andrewsky89: No I'm serious.

Girl: k
Girl signed off at 9:43:48 PM [blocked].

I really have no tolerance for anti-gunners these days.:D

no good, dude. That didn't help anything. I would ask your friend what she knows about the bill, and then why she signed the petition. After her explanation, which probably consisted of "cuz, like, guns are bad, right. They like, kill people n stuff," I would go to work explaining why guns ARE NOT bad and inviting her to the range.
Blocking her on AIM only keeps you from making another gun lover out of an on-the-fence anti.

Suggestion:

Never allow anyone or anything to have power over you.

If anyone or anything has any power, no matter how little, this takes away your resources to be free, and able to carry on with what is true and correct in living free.

Disassociate from those people, places and things that might, or do have any power over you.

One cannot change people, places or things, the only person one can change, is themselves.

Just a suggestion.

Oh, and actually I invited her to go shooting with me several times.

This was not someone easily converted.

This sounds like a situation that Andrewsky has been through a few times with this anti, and he came here to vent. So let him, and stop preaching, y'all. This is High Road, not High Horse.

Don't alienate.

Educate.

She signed the petition after I had at least ten polite discussions with her about the evils of gun control. Like I said I offered to take her to the range too.

You did the right thing except, never give up on them, unless it's a liberal that made the law standing right in front of you:cuss::fire::evil:

To be honest with you guys, I really do have no desire to "educate" hardcore antis.

I took both of my anti-gun brothers to the range. For a few months they were less anti but then one of my brothers told me that if he ever sees me carrying a gun he'll never talk to me again.

So now I don't bother with people who think they own my Rights.

Dang that sux man, im glad I have a gun loving family. Security guard, military, police officer and School campus security gun lovin family members.

Education is well and good. But sometimes there are just people who cannot be reasoned with. Being an anti is often a symptom of emotion-based liberalism, and that cannot really be reasoned with until the person makes a conscious decision to stop being ruled by their feelings and start thinking. It would appear that the OP's friend is not yet at that point. I'm not sure if blocking is the right thing to do, but some people are not worth the time to talk to and try to educate until they make some changes themselves. The OP's time might be better spent with other friends who are less dependent on emotional responses to make decisions.

Trying to educate is a great thing. But sometimes with some people, it's a waste of time. Maybe that's the case with the OP's friend.

When WILL the wheels come off the WAGON?

I dunno; but it seems like it won't be very long from now.

The EDUCATION principle is correct, but what happens when the dialogue doesn't even involve words anymore?

CYA.

Hey TaurusOwner

That's pretty much what I mean as well.

A lady friend from high school found me on the Internet, and started E-mailing me, which was nice.

Several months later, I started getting e-mails from her about the evils of Christopher Columbus. I don't care if she was cute in high school. The same things she was saying, was precisely what Ward Churchill was saying.

I get e-cards from her all the time and I send them to spam, but after 3 years, the e-mails have begun to slow down. Zombie?

I agree that some people are just uninformed and ignorant and can be educated. On the other hand some people are just stupid and you can't fix stupid. The key is being able to tell the difference and knowing when to cut your losses.

Don't ignore her!

Andrewsky,
File this from "Gunsmith" in your arguments drawer.
The Brianna Denison case and the recent revelations of sexual assaults on the University of Nevada campus highlight the cold hard facts of life.

The police can not keep you safe; it is your own personal responsibility. Insane rules prohibit adults that have a concealed-carry permit to carry on campus. No doubt the rapist is aware of this fact. However, the assailant carries a gun anyway, proving once again that gun laws disarm only those who obey laws.

Another cold hard fact. Registered sex offenders are allowed to use the campus and go to school, but people who chose to defend their own lives and have had extensive background checks and training required to obtain a concealed handgun permit cannot enjoy the same campus that sex offenders can.
I believe this is the best "Reader's Digest Condensed Versions" of the concealed carry on campus argument to date. It would be interesting to read your "Anti's" rebuttal.

This is High Road, not High Horse.
No argument here. But friends don't want friends to argue unarmed. :D

Just trying to help.....

Poper

He said he'd reconsider in a month. Let him cool off! Maybe he'll feel like taking another crack at swaying her then.

It's okay, Andresky, I feel your pain...

If you've had well reasoned debates with her in the past that exchange constitutes a personal slap in the face.

"Nyaa, Nyaaa, Nyaaaa! I did something to piss you off!"

Tell her that she knows your position and that little stunt peeing in your boot cost her.

One cannot expect to debate those who, like, are too dense to effectively communicate and stuff. Like.

I don't know her but given this pathetic example of something resembling communication it's hard for me to believe that "girl" is capable of well-reasoned debate. Conversing with a domesticated animal may be more rewarding for you.

I understand your frustration. Nevertheless, don't give up. People only change when they're too uncomfortable not to. Making people think tends to make certain people uncomfortable. If you can do that, you're halfway there.

i am calling this person a very bad name in my head. why? because i don't think its very friendly to taunt my friends about their beliefs/opinions even when i don't agree with them.
leave her blocked.

Ya, if you have had conversations with her in the past and she knows your stance on this topic, then she is just being a 5 letter word by rubbing it in your face. One of my best friends is a pretty strong anti. He voted for Obama, he will vote for any "take the guns off the streets for the dafety of the people" law, but he would never bring it up jsut to rub it in my face. That's why we are still friends. He respects my opinion, even though he disagrees with it. And what's even more frustrating is he will very easily admit that he is fully comfortable knowing I have guns, and has admitted that he would use a gun to protect his family if he had to. Admittedly I haven't been "working on him" for long.

I did recently get him to admit, he thinks it should just be harder to get guns, and not impossible. Of course I had to point out to him that we live in CA, where it is already very hard to get guns, because he had no idea what our laws were.
