I hate it when that happens...

I was like "SERIOUSLY"???? :what: (Said in my 21 YO daughter's voice...)

Don't tell me you haven't done it too!!! ;)

I bought a new Inline Fabrication Ultramount for my LCT press, and was taking off the powder drop hopper so I could start taking the press apart off the bench, and it slipped, and BOOM! Powder *everywhere*!!! Luckily, I only spilled a small amount of the total powder that was in the hopper, otherwise, it would have been even worse.

The good news is that I was finally able to get the mess cleaned up (took forever), and got my new Inline Fab Ultra Mount installed, and all is good!!!

Thankfully I can say I've never done that, but I've always been scared of doing it, so I've always been VERY careful when handling open powder containers of any type.

Ive had it happen twice. Once my fault, bumped my Hornady powder drop with my elbow, when I was messing with the case feeder, and once because my tube is getting a little worn and it simply slipped off. Both times it spilled onto my bench, which thankfully was clean, so I just swept it back into the drop.

Ive also forgot to close the drain on my ChargeMaster a couple times :)

I haven't done that, but......I recently spilled a brand new 500ct. box of .223 Xtreme bullets. Wiped, inspected, and counted 502 back to the box. Feel your pain! Your setup looks great!!

I have spilled a full tube of primers everywhere... twice.

It took a lot of furniture moving and crawling around on the floor with a strong flashlight to find them all.

I can't remember ever doing it yet. I've had several close calls tho.

Your bench looks pretty clean so I assume you just put it back into the can. I have a powder drop that I've double stacked with disk that leak really bad tho. Most of the powder stays on the despenser so I just carefully take it apart to dump it back into the container.

After all there's no need to cry over spilled powder. ;)

I have started to refill my ChargeMaster with the drain open. Similar mess. I clean up as best I can, but there are always a few kernels of Varget here and there. My wife thought is was mouse droppings and chastised me for leaving it around.

On the plus side, it is good fertilizer for many bushes.

I've done it 2 times. I use the lee PPM and when I'm done I close the hopper and empty the thrower and then put my funnel in the jug and empty. well one time I forgot to close the hopper before taking it off and the other time I reached for the funnel and knocked over the hopper that was sitting on the bench. after that ordeal I use a 45-70 case and make sure the thrower is 100% empty and then I open the jug and put the funnel in and then lift the hopper and pour it in.

now I have a large plastic bowl under the PPM and the PPM is screwed to the bowl so the bowl catches the mess.

I have a nasty habbit of just letting go of stuff, coffee cups, bullet boxes, powder bottles...babies....naw only small stuff held in one hand.....like a baby....

worst day I had i droped my full perfect powder hopper, and in the process of catching it swatted the pound of powder that was on my bench off....yeah i quit for the day.

NEVER leave the plug out of the bottom/top a MEC shotgun press powder bottle or shot bottle. You forget. You tip it back to change something. You regret it.

Now, I just don’t do it.

I've spilled a little bit of just about everything at one time or another. Powder, primers, bullets, brass, ..............knocked my 505 off the bench and broke it.......... *sigh* :)

My worst powder spill was knocking an open pound to the floor. During the first Obama powder scare. At least the floor was clean so I recovered most of it. Good reason to use large kernel powders like 800-X or Trailboss :D. And don't have a carpeted floor.

it's common for bullet manufacturers to put 101 in a box of bullets, so you have an extra to play with the COL etc.
YOu got a bonus extra!

Yea typically I always get a couple extra in a 1000ct or even 500ct of bullets and such. Have to say I have done the "filling with an open drain" move once myself, but luckily caught it quickly haha. Nice setup there OP. I recently turned my home office into my dedicated reloading room. Realized I hardly ever work from home anymore and when I do it's more of a laptop on the sofa kind of deal, so my reloading setup got moved from the garage into its own space. Hoping to get it all decked out eventually, but for now I just built a 10ft by 4ft work station for loading and am using two large book cases for storage. Eventually I plan to outfit the perimeter of the room entirely with cabinet storage and possibly move one of my Liberty safes to the closet in that room. Currently one of the two walk ins in my master bedroom is only for the safes and related items and my clothes are in the closet of my old office bedroom lol. All my Guns easier to access than my wardrobe; my priorities are set!

Ever forget to close the drain on that charge master?
Yes, Only once.
I keep the lid under the drain and place the 1# bottle of powder in use on top of the hopper. This has been my practice for some time now. 1 powder on the bench at a time. When I load the CM with powder the bottle is now the lid. No labels required to remind me what powder I'm using.

I've had a spill that I think is worse than powder.... #7 1/2 lead shot all over the workings of a MEC 9000 progressive shotgun press. Geez. Those little buggers get in everything and you can't just vacuum them out. They get stuck, you have to disassemble parts of the press and pry them out. It's a huge mess. You do that one time and forever after you'll take extra special care handling shot, lemme tell you.

I knocked two boxes of bullets off a shelf and they spilled on the floor all mixed together. They were both Speer SPBT, one 257 cal, the other 7mm. I sorted through them really well and got them all back in the right boxes.... or so I thought. I was loading up some 257 Roberts when one of the bullets took more seating pressure than I expected. When I pulled it out of the die, it looked an awful lot like a 7x57 round. :uhoh: The load was actually in the correct range for a 7x57 and that particular bullet, but I have this feeling that the neck tension might be just a wee bit above normal. :what:

I've had one incident where I didn't have the hopper on the LPPM turned correctly and I pulled it off with powder going everywhere and another one where I had just loaded up a primer tray with primers and I had one of those sneaky-ninja-stealth-sneezes sneak up on me and primers went everywhere. My wife saw it happen and her suggestion was to just vacuum them up. I told her to go ahead and do it, but I'd be hanging out in the car. :D Then she let me pick them up the old fashioned way.

Matt

Nice setup.
Knock on wood - never dumped a hopper. But, I did charge a rifle case with no primer. Ball powder. I always eyeball the powder level and saw it was low. Dumped it back in the hopper and charged it again before I noticed the powder running out of the flash hole.

Just today I was priming a batch of 9mm cases and knocked over half a tray of primers. I prime off press while watching tv with a lee hand primer, took about 20 minutes to get all 50 primers recovered from under the coffee table and couch.
