Anyone catch Motorcycle Mania 3 on Discovery Channel last night? I caught the end of it and Jesse James (the chopper builder not the outlaw) was in Mexico with Kid rock and they were riding ATVs in sand dunes when they were approached by Mexican Police. Jesse James called their M-16s Mini-14s. It wouldn't bother me to much, but 1) jesse james is a firearm owner. On monster Garage be brought out his Desert Eagle 50 on time. 2) One of the trademark things he use to do on his bikes (maybe still does) is attach what appeard to be a loaded revolver cylinder. why do people do this to me?

Jesse James even has a line of custom wheels for cars..

One of the models is called "Revolver"

What the hell? :banghead:

Ignorance of firearms does not bother me. Firearms are technical with a history running several hundred years. They have historical and societal signifance the is not well appreciated.

Where I get red-eyed is when media advertises they are firearms ignorant, are proud of their ignorance, and refuse to fact check what is their demonstrably incorrect drivel. This passes through ignorance and procedes to propaganda.

David was quick to poin this out also...

Part that sorta bothered me was when they were filming he and the wife unit and she asked him when he was going to therapy... He responded by grabbing his gun racking the slide and saying "this is all the therapy I need."

Now to most gunnies we would understand what he probably meant as most of us think shooting IS theraputic but... To someone that doesn't shoot it could have been taken as he wanted to do her harm as it was towards the end of the show and ya knew things weren't good... Hell, he'd already had her arrested for spousal abuse...

And I'm sure a custom bike builder would be offended if you couldn't identify what year, make, and specific model a certain bike was. My wife is a gunowner, but she isn't an enthusiast like me. If she got two gun brands mixed up I don't think I would be horribly offened. Just like she (as an art historian) doesn't get offended if I mix up two different famous artists.

Some of you guys need to lighten up.

I think he just meant it seems wrong for someone who should be knowledgeable about firearms (from being a gun owner) arrogantly goes out on a limb and misidentifies a firearm.

If I owned a couple of motorcycles, and then make an assumption about a motocycle I had never seen before (I would hope this Jesse James fellow never saw an M16 before and therefore didn't know the name, because IMO it is one of the most popular -aside from the Kalishnaknov series of rifles- firearms silhouettes known around the world) just to seem like a know-it-all and impresse all the non motorcycle owning types.

yeah... its what WhiteKnight said. I wasn't offended. It is the same reaction I gave when someone in a movie managed to shoot 30+ round from a pistol without reloading and they don't have an extended magazine.
I think its also the he called it a mini14. Knowing that the mini14 exists implies more than a casual interest in firearms. And a most of my friends who are not interested in guns know what a m16 looks like.

One explaination I can think of though is watching to much of the A-Team. For some reason hanible like to load the back of Mr. T's van with Mini 14s but sometimes they had m16s the took from the Army.

Anyway.. not offended just thought he would be more knowledgable about such things since he seemed (from 1 episode of monster garage) like an avid shooter.

Yes, actually, I do believe that Jesse James is a felon.

Dont wanna spread any negative propaganda about the guy, but I think this is the case.

Anybody see the episode of Monster Garage where they built the donut patrol car? Jessie went to the range with some officers from the Long Beach PD. He opened up his gun case and pulled out a Desert Eagel (i think that's what it was) The one cop says"Damn Jessie". Then he pulls out a J frame S&W made especially for him by the president of S&W.
