it is rough but should clean up decent enough... it is a takedown model which has me interested- well that and I already have a 30-30 and dies etc. I am guessing worse case is a relining may be needed but preliminary looks it likely wont.

Any of you guys have one? would you buy another?

Thanks in advance

If it's mechanically sound and maybe a bit cosmetically challenged and the price is right, then I would say, sure go ahead and get it. Always liked the classic styling and rugged good looks of the Savage Model 99. Made in 1927 and chambered for the .30-30 sure seems like a great combination to have in that rifle.

Could we get a pic? Good bore? I would go for it if the price is good. "Rough" can be fixed. I use a worn exterior as a bargaining chip to lower the price.

I have a 1903 30-30.
Some guy died, the neighbor bought it, took it to a gun show, and I got it. I paid $560 with perfect bore.
I have a 1907 303Sav. Some guy was cleaning out his closet and took it to a gunshow. I paid $78 and it came with a box of ammo. With lousy bore.

Some truly classic blued steel and wood stocked guns from a bygone era! You guys both have some beautiful looking rifles! Thanks for sharing!

TallPaul, this is a no-brainer, what are you waiting for, go get it!

This 30-30 is a little older, around 1903 by the serial number. I have a cast bullet load that shoots great out of it and it is a lot of fun at the range. Good luck with yours.

Are you using the gas check with that bullet?

And its sitting here I could not talk to my bud last night... he is not in a hurry. From the sound of what Clark said I am not gonna lowball him. The bore I did not want to clean up but I ran a patch through her and I think it will be ok but I do not want to spend time on it just to pay more :) I need it like a hole in my head but its growing on me :) I like the idea of trying cast loads in her. If ohio opens up deer season to some bottle necks like the 30-30 I may have to try it- I heard a rumor the other day
:)

yep that's where I am at... just need to start negotiations....

Yes Sir, it has a gas check. When I get supersonic and faster, I like to use gas checks as the accuracy improves. This load averages 1732 fps with an extreme spread of 41 fps. 1700-1900 fps for 30 calibers has been a sweet spot for accuracy in my experience.

so I did buy it... paid 200.00 A bit higher than I wanted to go but like my bud said I made him pay a lil more for a truck I sold him last fall. I got picts but am having trouble getting them off my phone. I am betting she cleans up just fine without hurting her value too much...

They are great rifles....really an unsung rifle...everyone seems to go to winchesters, but that is changing.

I walked away from a 30-30 about a month ago....a little too rough and a little spendy.

Still on the lookout for the "right" one.

I am fighting ann issue downloading my pictures- I will post as I get them sorted out :( She really cleaned up NICE- nicer than I thought and it was preliminary :)

Congrats on a good deal for a great gun. Hopefully the bore turns out to be fine.

The 99's are going up in value as of late it seems. Thats a rifle on my short list and im open to one of 3 calibers, 250-3000 or 300 Savage or 30-30. Nice grab sir!

Ps: i was attempting to start my 1st thread the other day and when i typed everything out and tried to upload a pic, everything deleted. I tried it again and the same thing happened again. Read you were having issues, curious if it was something like that or if anybody knows why that happened to me? Thanks

some before picts
