Need help finding a replacement rear sight for a Savage model 99

This is an older one, I think it was manufactured in 1915. It is the "takedown" model.

The rear sight is supposed to have an "insert" with the notch. The sight itself is there but the insert is missing (see attached photos). I'd like to buy a replacement but I have no idea where to find one. Most the model 99 parts I've seen are for newer variants and wouldn't work. Any info and/or advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Savage forum at 24 hour campfire. Those guys are super hard core on older Savages. Somebody there will help

Guy there makes scope mounts for these vintage rifles that goes into the existing mount holes. You can have a scope without drilling/tapping and ruining it's value. Just an option

You can have a scope without drilling/tapping and ruining it's value.

Too late for that. A prior owner drilled 4 holes in it (see attachment). Also the wood/metal has been refinished. Also, it's the "takedown" version but the barrel won't un-screw, I think it rusted into place or something. I don't want to try to force it for fear of breaking something. I don't think this rifle will have alot of value to a collector.

I do wonder though if I could find a scope mount that will fit the holes that the previous owner drilled? The rifle is pretty accurate, even with the incomplete sight I've managed to shoot a nice group or two with it. Could be interesting to see what it could do with a scope mand maybe even some pointed bullets (it's a .30-30, usually I load these with round nose because I also have a winchester 94).

Anyway, I tried Numrich but didn't see what I was looking for. They have this style sight but it's not the same:

They also have this, but it says "sold out" and doesn't include a photo, so I don't know if it's correct or not:

That looks like a Marble's sight assembly, very close in design even tho marked Sav.. Marbles are still in production & you ought to be able get a replacement insert and screw from them, sure looks like it'd fit
Had a 1933 TD in .303 Savage & the original sight was a simple low flat topped open rear..............I replaced that sight with one of the Marble's versions that looked just like yours.

Incidentally, the Marble's version had a 'double' sight ladder..........a 'u' shaped ladder with notches on each leg....it WILL work on your gun & even looks fairly original, tho it's probably easier to just replace the whole thing.
