Which is basically a Star Firestar 9mm ( but with improvements ). It's NIB.

Here's a quote from The inside scoop - 1992 SHOT Show - Column:

One of the most exciting new lines of handguns I saw at the show was Springfield Armory's new "Cat" series. (To be honest, I don't know the real name of this four-gun line, and I keep trying to resist the urge to call it the "Feline." The four guns are called the Panther, the Firecat, the Bobcat, and the Lynx. The Panther is a full-sized automatic chambered in .45, .40 S&W, and 9mm, the Firecat is a compact 4-inch-barrel auto chambered in .40 S&W and 9mm; the Bobcat is a small .380 auto; and the Lynx is a tiny .25.

Sound familiar? Yes, in fact this series is manufactured in Spain by Astra, imported by Interarms, and customized by Springfield. These guns are very similar in appearance to the Astra guns, but they have a few extras, like checkered wooden grips, checkered front and back straps, and white dot sights. They won't be available until March or April, but when they hit the market, I have no doubt that these guns will be very popular in the self-defense market.

Dealer wants $350. Gun fits my hand perfect and just feels good.

What do ya think????

I think the Sprinfield Firecat is basically an Astra A-70. My book says a NIB Firecat is worth $495; excellent condition $425. NIB A-70 is worth $275; excellent condition $250. I do not know what either actually sells for. Since pistol feels good in your hand, I hope members reply who have one or the other. $350 seems fair, but dang it would be nice if dealer would come down to $275.

Thanks for the bump!

I'm still tryin' to conjour up the funds ( as well as decide if I want it ). I sorta like the uniqueness of it too. Try and Google search Springfield Firecat.....There's hardly nuthin' out there! I wonder what the production numbers were for this firearm ( as a Firecat, not the Astra )

Gary,

Don't know whether you are still on the Forum here. Did you buy the Firecat? I just put a NIB Firecat on layaway. Apparently they were made from the Astra A70 kits with SA customization. From the info I got from Springfield only around 500 were produced because the kits became scarce and unavailable.

The Firecats were actually Astra A75s that Springfield imported with their name on it. I had one when they came out in the mid-90s. Great guns. There are many, many times I regret trading that pistol off.

I spoke with an employee of SA today who advised me the Firecats were built from an Astra A-70 kit. The Firecats were a single action pistol. The A-75 was a double action pistol. Only about 500 were built because Springfield couldn't get any more of the kits.

Ooops, you are correct, the A75s were the double actions. My bad. I bought mine from SOG for $299 with two mags when they were new. It was park'ed, had wood grips, and the mags were park'ed as well. The gun looked nicer than the Astras of the day.

Had a friend who had an Astra A-70. The gun was accurate and reliable and felt really good in the hand, just about the perfect size for 9mm. These are hard to find these days, and the Springfield Firecat version is even more rare. At $350, I would definitely pick it up.

Magazines and holsters are likely to be a problem to find, but the gun will shoot! Or, it could be an interesting collector piece as well.
