A good friend and I were talking and he had a Blackhawk 10mm/.40 S&W he thought abought getting a 38-40 cylinder for... he remembered I have 10mm auto's and somewhere along the lines we were talking of ruger mk II's and he wanted to trade for my 5.5 bull barreled stainless- which my first MK II and I like too much to trade..... a week or so later he says he would trade for my 6.5 standard stainless mk II- I had gotten that back when face book had buy sell n trades before they decided it was bad. I like it but am considering it. I know n he knows he is getting the short end of the trade- he has done that several times to me n others over the years- usually adding to the trade until I can not say no- even telling him it would be cheaper to buy outright.... I am newish to the black hawk game- like the last to years other than a vaquero .44 I got many years ago to try cowboy action shootin. I have acquired a few .44 mag supers n a few .45 colts all in blue.

The 10 mil might be ok since I load- or can load 10mm or 40 S&W - not a premium round for the blckhawk. It will be the 5.5 or 6.5 inch- I am not sure which even though he said its 5.5- I have not seen it yet.

I guess the real holdback is me buyng or trading into anything with the prices of powder n primers etc... n I really do not need ANY additional guns - I just seem to WANT them :p

I would probably do the trade just because you already have another 22 other than the trade piece, and a 10mm Blackhawk is harder to find then a mk 2. And stainless Blackhawks are nice.
other .22's.... yeah I kinda thought that:) 5 mk II's a mark 3 3 smith 41's a couple k frames a smith compact a taurus pt22 -2 or three j22's n aruger sp101.... oh n a hertage n a stainless ruger SS oh and a mki around here somewhere and an old uberti stallion...
:D I like .22 pistols n revolvers... have for years

Your friend is offering to trade you a 10mm blackhawk for a MK2 standard and you are still thinking about it?
I feel like this is a prank
He's offering to trade you a $600-$700 gun for a $200-$300 gun.
Not a prank at all- I have gifted him stuff in the past and he I ....

I know what I would do if I was in that situation.
I’d be buying me the stuff I needed to start hand loading 10mm shortly after I gave him an answer. . 😉
already load for 10mm Have a kimber TLE-a glock 20 and a RIA n a friend wanted me to load for the 10 so I had himn pay for the Dillon 650 coversion n I ju8st bought another 650 at that time for the difference. I like 10 mm

If you have no attachment or future plans for the Mark II, trade it for the 10mm. Experience something new and have fun.

It kinda depends on how attached I was to the 22. I get attached to guns like that which get shot a lot. Course, with a 38-40 cylinder, the Blackhawk would get shot a lot.

I have a stainless Old Vaquero with factory .38/40 and .40 S&W cylinders. It's great to shoot because the ballistics are almost identical with 180 gr bullets and .40 is way cheaper than .38/40 for range use. When it goes out for "duty", it gets the .38/40 cylinder with Winchester Super-X 180 gr JSPs.

If you’re at all interested in the Blackhawk 10mm, get it now. You can replace the MK-II pretty easily. There were far fewer Blackhawks produced in this chambering.

The stainless 10mm/.40 was offered with barrels in 4-5/8” and 6-1/2” lengths. The other option is the blued model produced for Buckeye Sports in 1990/1991. These also came with a 6-1/2” barrel and had cylinders in 10mm & .38-40. As noted previously, the old black powder cartridge has similar ballistics to the .40 S&W.

The 10mm has ballistics similar to a .357 Mag with a similar barrel length.

I bought one of the stainless revolvers when they were released, and lucked into a good price on one of the Buckeye guns a year or so later. I can get around 1300 fps with a 180 gr. bullet in my guns. I’m sure I could go higher, but I don’t feel the need. If I want more power I’ll grab a revolver chambered in .44 Mag or .45 Colt.

Ruger Blackhawk New Bisley Buckeye model in 10mm and 38-40 are over $1k if you can even find one. I'd trade in a heartbeat.

You want to know what the kicker is? I was looking for a Buckeye .38-40/10mm for years. You could always find them on Gunbroker for $1200-$1300, which was more than I wanted to pay. So when the new 10mm/.40 model came out I jumped on one of them.

And then within a year of buying it, I found two of the Buckeyes at different places for around $800. As you can see, I bought one of those, and was really tempted to get the other.

I wouldn’t mind getting one of the Buckeye .32 H&R/.32-20 models as well... but again, not for what I see them offered for. Oh well.

Yes, do it.
I'm not big into SA cowboy guns but bought a Ruger Blackhawk .45 convertible to shoot .45acp and never regretted it.
I also shoot 10mm and .40 s&w and kept an eye out for exactly what you're looking at. They're scarce. Never found one at a price I could swallow.
The MKII is a fine gun but even in great shape it's not worth half of the Blackhawk.

sprint don’t walk to get the ruger blackhawk convertible 10mm/40sw. you won’t regret it. put hogue or pachmayr rubber grips on it for more shooting comfort. during the last ammo drought 40sw was available at decent prices. 10mm for alaskan apex predators, 40sw for lower 48, forest or urban. here are my 45lc/acp and 357/38/9mm blackhawks. i pretty much only shoot cheaper semiauto pistol ammo out of these two revolvers.
