so i just came into posession of a L1A1 parts kit.traded some work to a friend for it...i really know nothing of these rifles other than the basics.( 7.62 nato round, semi auto, etc.) and while i do love to tinker, this is a little more than i care to deal with.

looking online yeilded a little information, but moreso, left me thinking "do i really need another semi-auto 7.62 rifle"?

so my question for all of you is.....

what is this kit worth?? obviously, it is a kit and not a complete rifle. what would a fair price for it be??
gunbroker has a few kits like this, but with a non-thumb hole stock and the ones i saw had the barrels cut. those were around $250

the rifling is good, the bore seems pretty shiny, there is some finish wear on the parkerized barrel....but other than that it seems nice.

are people still putting together kits?
is there a market for this??
anyone want to buy it??

i really want to get a garand, so if i sold this i would be able to do that.

any help or insight would be great!!!

please and thank you.
chris
ps/// i can take better photos of any misc. bits and pieces if need be...

You're going to want to go here and start searching and reading. You'll have access to enough information to make your head explode, and enough to keep your FAL build from doing so.

You have what is left of a Century assembled British(inch)rifle. Someone most likely removed and sold the reciever as the Imbel or Argentine reciever is worth more seperately.

With the hysteria that is going on these days you could prolly ask $1000 for it and some fool will think he has a bargain.

Personaly if I was to be looking for one I wouldn't pay more than $100 for that kit. Nuetered barrel, butchered lower assembled by century, etc.

IMHO anyone that pays more than that needs to have their head examined.

If it had an original stock and lower and the barrel was not butcherd I would consider paying more.

What Powermad said.

I've never seen a "parts kit" made from a Century rifle before, but that is very obviously what this is. the thumbhole stock and modified barrel give it away.

You might be able to find a buyer for the whole thing. It would be more difficult to sell then an actual "UK Surplus" parts kit, but it's worth a shot.

If nothing else there are a few parts in there you could part out and sell by themselves.

I'd be interested in the Inch selector, the Inch mag release, and the inch bolt release, for example.

Bolt and bolt carrier are probably in good shape as well...especially the bolt carrier being sand-cut.

To be honest, if you find a good FAL smith like Sledgehammer (search for him on the FAL files board...he tweaked on mine and she runs like a top), and then find a good Imbel reciever and some decent furniture, you will have less in it than if you bought a complete rifle since you didn't actually buy the parts. to be honest, you would only need to get the stock and pistol grip initially...the front hand guards will work for the time being.

Mebbe cut and crown the barrel...mebbe threading it for a muzzle device.

New spring kit from Wolff to be certain.

Then get a good park job done on her and voila! You got the Right arm of the free world. :)

D

Yeah most Fal kits are going for around $300 now a days, but like the other posters have siad its a nuetered century L1A1 so I would say more like $175-$225 max.

If you are looking to sell it for the most profit, you would get more money by striping out all the parts and selling them individually.

If you are looking to build it back up, then you need a new lower (inch lowers are cheap) a new stock, pistol grip, more likely than not some compliance parts, and the real kicker is the reciever which is running a minimum of $300 today-- Cheapest I think you could get it done in parts would be another $400-$450

My vote is strip it out ans sell off the pieces

Not really a kit, just a grab bag of odds and ends.

the thumbhole stock and modified barrel give it away.
Horrible, aren't they?

If nothing else there are a few parts in there you could part out and sell by themselves.
Assuming that they are in good shape, I agree.

Is the breech block stripped or intact?
