Got the rifle home tonight and I took the bolt out once to check it before I clean it and now I cant remove it. It pulls up and clicks and does not slide back. :fire:

Things that have happen today that might have caused this -

I had two or three rounds that didnt chamber. (Military brass reloaded that didnt resize all that well)

One of those rounds had the primer fail and fall out and powder dumped in the chamber. I cleaned it and fired several more rounds after that happened.

There is not a round a chamber and I really have never seen this before.

If you seen this before let me know. Ill be taking it to a smith in the morning.

Vise and hammer (use a brass hammer, or protect the bolt with a rag or such).

I am not a gunsmith. But that is what he is going to use.

the primer that fell out I found it. I checked the barel and the chamber. I didnt see anything. I thought of wacking it but???

You looked down the barrel. You say it is unloaded, and I am sure it is but do you realize how many people are shot with an "unloaded" gun. Follow the safety rules and you will be safe.

yes sir

thats the first thing I did before I left the range and when I got home. This is a unloaded rifle. There is a problem with the machanics with the bolt. And it sucks

Remington 700

Y0u say the primer failed then fell out spilling the powder into the chamber. You would have to have a mighty big flash hole to allow that to happen. I have had a bullet that was not seated deeply enough stick in the rifling and when the bolt was opened the powder spilled out but mostly into the magazine well. If powder did get into your chamber it most likely got into the locking lugs of your receiver. If the bolt will not open I would not use a lot of force (like a big hammer) until I tried some WD40 sprayed around the bolt where it locks into the receiver. Let is set for awhile then try opening and closing the bolt a little at a time. Unless you have fired a heavy, heavy reload that has really screwed things up you should be able to finally get the bolt open. Just don't get discouraged and mess your rifle up. Take your time and with a little lubricant you should be able to open it. On my rifle some of the powder did get into the lugs and the bolt was hard to close and open until I cleaned it out with air pressure. After that, no problem.

Just a thought, if this is a NEW Remington it has a safety bolt that requires a key. Is it possible the poistion of the safety slipped?

Just something to check, never heard of a Remington with this kind of problem.

"...Gee, a Winchester Model 70 with controlled round feed would never have this problem because they're the perfect rifle..." :neener:

HEY! Take it easy! I'm trying to make friends here, OK? :D

Truly, I'm curious as hell as to what the problem is and I'm looking forward to seeing what the gunsmith finds out. Wonder if it's a "Remington" thing.

SteyrAUG had a good idea there.
