Well, I finally took the plunge...
After owning and selling many different handguns (SIGs, S&Ws, Taurus, etc.), I have finally picked up my first 1911. In my case a S&W sw1911. I considered the Mil-specs from SA, Kimbers, and the Dan Wesson offerings. I settled on the S&W for a few reasons:
1. S&W has been fabricating parts for other 1911 makers (Kimber, etc.) for a long period of time (heck even some parts for Harley-Davidson cycles).
2. S&W incorporates many high-end parts in their pistol (Wilson, Hogue, Novak, McCormick, Wolff, Briley, etc.)
3. It is fitted by the Performance Center folks (although not performance tuned)
4. It incorporates an external extractor (personal preference)
5. S&W noted post sale customer-service and lifetime repair policy.
6. Its a S&W!!! (have owned or do own 4506, 4516, 4516-2, 915, 5906)
All in all, I am very pleased with the fit and finish of the piece, other than my P226 it is simply the finest pistol I've ever owned. I will be posting a range report later as I wring this puppy out.
Feels great to finally have one... now I just need to get that Glock and my conversion will be complete.
God Bless!
