I just got Lyman's 49th reloading manual, don't throw away Lyman 48.

I was comparing the loading tables in Lymn's 48th Ed'n with its new 49th ed'n.

I only looked at the rounds I reload.

I'm glad I didn't trash (or give to a friend) my Lyman 48.

Here's why,

1. In the 48th manual there are 8 recipes of bullets for reloading .380 ACP - in the 49th, there are 7.

2. In the 48th manual there are 12 recipes of bullets for reloading 9 mm - in the 49th, there are only 9.

So, save #48.

Maybe they got rid of the ones that blow stuff up? :what:

J/K Thanks for the info.

Are the recipes the same for the ones that stayed?

I seem to find that most new editions of loading manuals get more and more conservative. I found one of my loading manuals from the late 80's that had 158gr .357's loaded up with 14.7gr of 2400. A much more recent one maxed out at 11.2?!?

I am trying to find out if the Lyman #49 has loading data for the 6mm/250 Savage cartridge. It is not the 6mm International! If it is listed in there I would be over joyed to purchase one. :D

Is anyone using the RCBS.Load software?
Does it have good reloading data?

Do the databases only exist online, or do you download them and have access to them like a book? Can the load data be searched like a database?

Is it worth having?

It seems to have other databases (published manuals). Are they subscription?

I dunno, $100+ seems like a lot.

dmickey, the Hodgden site lists the 6mm-250 in their data base. I'm guessing it's the one that you have referred too.

It's not unusual for a manual to not have the same loads or as many as a previous manual. It just means they didn't test those loads. Mind you, you should never give away a manual. There's nearly always info in the old one you'll want sooner or later. I have the Lyman 45th Edition(have a Hodgdon #23 too. 1977 vintage) It has a bunch of loads for obsolete cartridges that may or may not be in the newer books. The 48th was $50Cdn. up here. Don't need a new manual that badly.
"...Hodgdon site lists the 6mm-250..." Yep. Loads for 55 to 107 grain bullets.

I would like the same answers to mmorris' questions about rcbs.load. I don't mind paying the money if it is worth it in any sense. I have about 20+ manuals, dating back to the famous Speer #8. Don't know if I need more.

The 48th is my standard reloading manual and my favorite. I would be curious to know what the 49th has that the 48th doesn't have. IOW, do I need the 49th?
