I want to thank those of you that responded to my post on the Sig Pro 2340! However, today I bought a Springfield 4" XD-40 black service model #XD9109. It came with Trijicon night sights and two (2) ten round stainless mags.

I put it with a OWB black molded leather holster from Gould & Goodrich and a black leather clip-on mag carrier from Gun Leather Inc.

I really like the Sig but, this XD just fit my hand better and felt more comfortable to me overall. The triggers were close, of these two particular guns the edge went to the XD. The XD's rail is ready to accept most any rail attachment from various companies while the Sig Pro has a more proprietary rail. The Trijicons on the XD topped it off for me.

I picked up some 165gr Winchester SXT's for home and defensive use.
Anyone have any suggestions for range ammo?

I'll post some pics later tonight or this weekend along with posting range results on this 4" model.

Now, for the next purchase.........hmmm??

:D

The XD is a great choice. In regards to the trigger though...the Sig Pro has a gritty trigger out of the box....1000 dry fires later and its like butter. Really. Also the grips are scaleable. I prefer the large padded ones....kills recoil big time. Tricons are nice...I prefer Line and Dot but have tricons on one of my 229's and it isn't bad.

One thing about the XD you should know. On my 9mm version...after about 200 rounds during rapid fire drills the trigger itself got hot. Very strange....yes...HOT as in to the touch. Also I had to take a nail file to the face of the trigger due to the seem of the plastic halves leaving a rough edge.

That said...both are wonderful guns, both have proprietary accessory rails...both have similar break downs, both are reliable....etc. I love the XD and bought one for my dad...so you know I trust it. I carry a Sig Pro for my personal arm off duty....I love both guns. Either way you go its win win. The only thing I can honestly say you cannot touch regarding Sig is their customer service. Holy cow!!! I am blown away at how helpful they are. I called them to order and PAY for a grip because I didn't like mine that came with it...and they sent me one for free....TWICE!!! for both guns. I didn't even ask. WONDERFUL

btw the XD takes sig sights. you can find them inexpensively at cdnninvestments.com.

a hogue handall or similar rubber handle glove will help with recoil.

the rails on the XD are not what I would call proprietary. because they are picatinny/weaver and its not vendor specific or closed or limited to certain companies. you can easily get accessories for it from a variety of manufactures and you can use it on other items manufactured by different companies, remington shotgun, misc AR15. unlike the rails on my Steyr M40 pistol.:( sig on the other hand you dont have many accessory options, only sig makes them to my knowledge.

The XD-40 was the right handgun great pick. AS for target ammunition get what ever you like. The .40 s&w is the zh!t, this we know. I put 200 rounds into my XD-40 today, 40 rounds back to back I was hot & so was my .40 s&w but not my trigger. Anyone who rapid fires a firearm at a indoor range his ??? is not gona be out there much longer. Stay safe your XD-40 can get the job done 9mm it's not :barf:

Good luck with the XD, hope you enjoy it.
But I think you should have gotten the 2340, frankly.

$530!!

standard sight XD's go for $430 NIB roughly you can find them for little less sometimes. now if you were in california or another state with strict laws I would expect the high price.

cdnninvestments.com has nightsights for $20-$40 depending on which one you go with.

hope the dealer was nice, you could of done better on the price.

Sig Pro's last summer were on sale for $430-$450 was a good deal. I still wish I had jumped on that one. :banghead:

now that you have an XD check out a new home away from home
XD-HS2000 Forum

you can find info on new spring and guide rod. plenty of other info on XD-HS 2000 line of pistols.

"Anyone who rapid fires a firearm at a indoor range his ??"

Um...not quite sure what you meant here but I think you mean the range will ask someone who is rapid firing to leave right?

I was actually at a range in Austin....one who wanted police business and offered discounted rates. I get there and they tell me first off...."please don't draw from the holster".

Okay..all things being equal and seeing that there is no place to isolate me from other shooters for their safety I agree. I begin shooting doing "failure drills" like I was trained to.

The range guy comes up to me and says..."sir you need to slow your rate of fire." I was like "WHAT!?!?!?" but I did...hey its his range right. Problem is, I hadn't even gotten to cover fire/rapid fire drills yet. Here I am...having to fire one shot at a time slow and measured. I don't believe I will ever go to his range again. I see why he doesn't recieve police business.

If you are ever unfortunate enough to have to shoot at someone who initiated a fight....you best shoot quickly. More likely than not they will have either sighted you or fired at you BEFORE you even draw your weapon. Those fist two shots should sound almost like one. The third is the measured death dealing head shot. The first two more than likely will NOT stop an assailant who is in the process of lethal attack, but it WILL slow him down long enough to get that measured shot off.

I am not saying don't aim....just learn to point shoot center mass with both eyes open using gross muscle movements...yada yada yada...what was this thread about?:D

Well, the MSRP is $569.00, I bought it for $530.00, that's fine with me. You said you can pick up non-nightsighted models for $430.00. If you take that price and add to to cost of Trijicon's installed, you have right around what I paid. Besides, it was there when I wanted it and ready to go, no screwing around. My time is worth a ton more than any small diffrence there may have been. Additionally, the man I buy from treats me exceptionally well and I don't mind him making a profit, it's a good relationship for us both.

I went up there today to talk about another pistol, he handed me two 50 count boxes of Winchester white box and said, "it's on me". I don't mind paying a little more to be treated well.

;)
