I Know I'll Get Flamed But Best Round for Killing Zombies

The answer is obvious -- you need belt-fed! My personal preference is the H&K 21.

catastrophic damage to anything but the head is a waste of time with the zombies, as we all know. it would be fun to see them fly apart in little pieces, but in the long run, you're just wasting time and ammo.

Wasting ammo and risking zombie bites for the inevitable reloads. Just give me my PC9 and a dozen loaded 15-round magazines.

There is a video game series for the Playstation 2 called Devil May Cry. In that fashion and with all due respect to its main character Dante, I would have to go with my own set of twin pistols, "Ebony" and "Ivory".

2 PT111's 9mm fully loaded with Zombie Killing + Rounds - One with a stainless slide and the other in black.

Oh, and since we're dealing with the walking dead here, I would have some mele weapons as well. Just in case I run out of ammo and cannot continue to give them an "all lead" diet. Possibly a chain saw, ala Ash, but then you will have to stop and re-fuel. Probably the best bet would be a nice hatchet or broadsword.

When fighting the "Donner Party from Hell," remember to check their wallets because most zombies are irresponsible and wont think to cancel their Credit Cards.

Check out the pics.

Well, in an all out zombie attack, I would most likely be caught off gaurd so I would have to go with what I have ready. That would be my Yugo SKS with 10 loaded stripper clips and my 1911 with 7+1 in the gun and 4 loaded mags.

call saturday night live and tell em your idea....they're badly hurting for anything funny.

I dunno about the zombie part, but I've got a week's pay that says SNL will be doing at least one sketch this week (assuming it's live this week -- is it?) about the Cheney incident. In fact, they'll probably spend about 50% of the show on it. If even 5% of it is actually funny, I'll be surprised.

In a surprise zombie attack I'd have to resort to the guns I keep loaded and handy. I'd repel the initial zombies at my door with my Mossberg 500 home defense gun filled with five rounds of buckshot, then start picking off zombies with the Glock 21 I keep in my bug-out bag. I have 3 loaded 13-round magazines, 3 loaded 10-rounders, and an extra box of JHP in the bag with the gun. And of course one in the pipe. I'd use that until I ran out of ammo, then pull my Glock 26 out of my belt holster (have that with me just about all the time). I have two 12-round mags filled with JHP and 2 10-rounders filled with FMJ target ammo handy. Every chance I got I'd be reloading magazines and loading the magazines for my PC9, which I would start using as soon as I was able to get it loaded. Meanwhile I'd send my wife to my hunting locker and have her bring up all the .30-06, 300 Savage, .12-gauge #4, #6, and #8 shot, .22lr, and .357 Magnum ammo down there. When I had depleted all my handgun caliber cartridges, I'd start using the shotgun and rifle ammo.

All told, I think I could hold out for awhile with what I have in stock. When that was all depleted I'd take the razor-sharp dagger I keep in my bugout bag and start hacking away at the zombies with that.

If I am lucky enough for the zombies to hold out until next week before attacking I should have a very, very nice AR15 with a pile of ammo to add to the mix. I only pray my luck holds out that long.

Nahhh. I'm planning for a mass assault by waves of zombies. My fire team and I will be defending our bunker. We'll have a two man team on the H&K 21 (or 1919A4, perhaps), so "reloads" wouldn't be an issue. The rest of our squad, which trains together in rattle battle matches, can use their FAL's/G3's/M1's/AR's/whatever for sniping as needed. :neener:

Hmmm... all of you that are picking the big "splatter' type stuff are forgetting that if you get blood on you, you're likely to turn into one.

I agree with something in a .223, semiauto, as well as a .45 ACP, and maybe something in a Browning fully automatic .30 belt fed, tripod mounted, machine gun (for on top of the building). :neener: at least till you run out of ammo...

Also, a nice bolt action for long range practice... .270 or 30-06... nothing like plinkin' away the afternoon at the undead... eh? ;)

I'm more worried about-[Attack of the Killer Tomatoes image] These suckers are soft mushy and take a lot more then one .22 to the brain!
Actually, in the movie, playing the song "Puberty Love" made the tomatoes docile. Then everybody just stomped on them. One of the best lines ever: the scientist examines a dead tomato, and in a dead-serious voice, announces "gentlemen, it's worse than we feared. This is no ordinary tomato...this, gentlemen, is a CHERRY tomato."

"Puberty Love," however, doesn't work too well on the walking dead. (I've tried--trust me) For that, I've got an old SKS and tons of 7.62 ammo.

But I think I become one on the drive to work.
Zombie driving.

Back to the question -
12 gauge, slugs or buckshot. It's no more effective than .22LR, but more entertaining with zombie skull fragments flying through the air.

+1

M1A1 Abrams.

120mm smooth bore cannon load up with forty rounds of the new beehive ammo. 7.62 mm coax with as much as you can carry. Then you got the TC's station with a Ma Deuce. The Loader has his own M240. If you get overwhelmed/run out of ammo you can button up, head to the ammo dump to restock and on the way there teach 'em why treadheads refer to grunts as "Crunchies".

One thing I was thinking about was, if you killed too many Zombies and you made a Zombie ramp! The gunshop owner could have killed so many that they would pile up and be able to walk on top of the dead Zombies right up to the roof of his store! That would suck!

Still, long before I starved to death or dehydrated, I would have shot up much of the ammo that I wasn't planning on taking with me. He filled up the bath tub with water if you watched the end of the movies so he had plenty of water, he just didn't have enough food. You can survive for quite a while as long as you have water. You will not be in any shape to fight but you will be alive at least. Maybe in a month or so, you will be rescued. You just have to wait and see I guess.

Good point about the .22lrs. Most gunshops carry 100,000 rounds of this stuff or more. When you think a brick is 500rds, a few cases would be 100,000 rds or so. A Ruger 10/22 would go a long way in thinning the heard. If the pile starts getting too high, move to the larger cals and move the pile out 50 yards. Keep doing this until you have killed all the zombies or run out of ammo. Just don't die with tons of unused ammo!

+1 for the flamethrower (for Romero-genre zombies).

Also, strategically greasing the floors in a mall could be useful.

Now just for fun...

Zombie genre level of "you're screwed-ness":

Romero: Hole up and wait it out or search and destroy these slow creepy ghouls, but know that you're a just living zombie that hasn't died yet- you will eventually end up a mindless zombie when you die someday unless you destroy your brain or incinerate yourself!

Dawn Remake 2004/28 Days Later:
Oh, man- you're screwed with these Olympic-caliber zombies/"infected". But if you can just manage to get away from it all, you're totally home free.

Return of The Living Dead: Yes, it's a parody. But you are SO screwed. You will end up a lucid superhuman zombie existing in perpetual agony that only eating living brains can alleviate. And the ONLY way out is 100% cremation- which you'll feel to the end- Aieeee!!!

Old Yeller:
Yeller just ain't Yeller no more, son. Don't let him bite you. Just do what you have to do and cry later. Be sure to destroy the brain and incinerate the carcass, just in case...

ok, ok. sounds good. thanks for clarifying. i had not considered the possibility of being able to operate in fire teams. i have a few like-minded individuals in my neighborhood, and we're all concerned about zombie infestation. i'll get back to everybody after i've reconsidered my strategy.

yeah, but we all know a crew of tankers will get lost rolling around a mall parking lot or wherever, so it might be a huge liability tagging along with them.

I've heard that Winchester will be rolling out the .266 Zombie soon. It is designed to penetrate the tough skin of Zombies and then the Plutonium core will generate 8.7 jiggawatts to their nervous system, sending them back in time to when they were not zombies.

I think we should practice organized zombie drills. We could round up meth addicts to play the zombies--a lot of the meth heads around my home town could easily pass for zombies, albeit of the fast-moving modern variety rather than the slow-moving Romero peahens. We could form elite zombie tactical squads. Our friends, family, and neighbors may think we're nuts, but we'll have the last laugh when the zombie virus breaks out.

My weapon of choice would be a lifted 1 ton Ford F-350.

I have sorta the same idea... the assault dually... an armored pickup truck with either one M2 Browning MG on back or two M1919's, one trained to each side. Armored fuel tanks, bulletproof glass, all-terrain tires, 4X4, biggest winch Warne makes... plus the assortment of small arms and appropriate ammo (MG ammo's on the flatbed with the MG's) where the back seat was.

Armored fuel tanks, bulletproof glass...

Near as I can tell, zombies don't use guns--maybe they loose control of their opposable thumbs or something--so this is just extra weight.

We have to use our heads when planning for a zombie attack.
