I like a 20ga

I use mine on doves, love that thing, quick to point. Patterns GREAT with 7/8 ounce of lead 7.5s, preferably AAs. Ducks, I prefer my 12s. They pattern heavy fasteel loads a lot better than 3" 20, a LOT better. Might be my gun, don't know, but I can't see choosing it over my 12s for waterfowl at all. And, for snows, I have a 10 gauge. :D

MCgunner, get some 3" Federal or Winchester 1350-1400fps loads for that 20 and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I am using a Skeet choke and the pattern is beautiful.

Thanks, I'll try 'em on paper, first, like always. I've been lookin' for something decent. I doubt I'll use the gun much on ducks, but it'd be nice to know I COULD successfully. :D It is a handy little thing on fast flying teal during teal season and might be my preferred ordinance for teal if I had a round that would pattern out of it.

One thing, 3" out of a 5+ lb double KICKS. My Winchester 12 gauge 1400 gas auto is nice, though, shooting 2 3/4" fasteel and is deadly on ducks. My Mossberg pump ain't bad, either, and just as deadly, but the gas gun really soaks up the pain. It's easier on me than the 20 shooting 3" by far. And, there's sometimes an odd opportunity on a goose where I hunt. I like 2 or 3 fasteel from the 12 if I can get 'em down inside 40 yards.

My Mossy is my main waterfowler. I've shimmed it for a perfect fit, makes it easy on me and points naturally and is pretty fast for a 12 gauge being as it has an aluminum receiver and is pretty light. It keeps up with those teal pretty well, but main thing, it's got the camo finish and plastic stocks which sheds the salt water and mud of the salt marsh and bays around here. I'd never want to subject a nice Browning O/U like Old Unc's to that environment, I don't even like taking my blued and wood stocked Winchester out in that stuff. The 20, however, is a cheap Remington Spartan, bought as a working gun. I took it out one teal season, got stuck in the muck and had to swim out. It didn't help my cell phone out much, but the Spartan seems okay with the experience. It got dunked and muddy. I've used paste wax on it, kept the rust off so far, and keep a close eye on the choke threads and such. The salt marsh is not a sterile environment.
