During the pandemic I bought 5 boxes of 20ga just incase I decided to get a 20ga shotgun when ammo was scarce. Well 4 years later I had a 12ga and a .410 Henry. Lost any desire to get a 20ga. I asked some gun buddies if they had any use and would trade for 20ga. One works at a gunstore and told him they had just gotten in a H&R single shot. It was still there. $170 and then 10% off sale. Looks to be unfired as the bore is mirror like. Just another toy to try while shooting clays.

I have one too, I had a few of those NEF's but the one in 30-30 is a lousy, lousy shooter. The 20ga is great though. Lil youth model. I don't use it for hunting and it's quite small for me, but I like having a small simple shotgun around. It don't weigh nothing, it would be easy for my wife or daughters to use and it's nice to have a compact, smallish long arm with a potent punch to toss in and out of the rig, go on the trail or the backwoods with or for any number of things like camping, etc...

They really are handy and I know I could definitely put food in the pot with one if I needed to.

That’s a beauty with the old chemical case coloring. I have one as well but your finish looks more vibrant. Love that little gun. Enjoy!

My first shotgun from grandpa , over half century ago ....it's still pristine ...
Congrats on your new gun....

Were the last ones at Walmart the Chinese made ones? Only reason I even considered this was it was made in New England. Looking at the wood and the butt pad I have a feeling this one is on the older side

I had the case hardened one just like the one pictured in the OP but I chopped it and molested it beyond anything that would be desirable. I paid $80 for it and wanted it to fit under the seat of my Ranger, but I gave it away, my grandma was living like a nomad staying at RV parks up and down the southern coast and said all her guns stored in Nebraska got stolen, a nice Win 94 earmarked for me got stolen too, along with other rifles and a couple handguns. She came for a visit and said she felt naked without a firearm so I gave her the lil NEF 20ga that I ruined. I wish I'd kept it in stock condition, and now that I think of it I wish I'd just given her the Colt Cobra .38 that I don't do anything with and don't have much use for except that I love it......

Yes, but they were not H&R. I bought mine new for like 107 ish. Mine has the Handi Rifle hardwood with a factory rubber pad. I still keep one of those slip on pads on it.

That's the way to go. The past few guns I bought have nothing to do with self/home defense; I got them because I wanted to have some fun.

I have a Benelli M1S90 full of 00 for business. I carried it as an LEO and it feels more like a tool than anything recreational; I just don't enjoy shooting it much anymore. Yesterday picked up a Stevens 555 20 gauge O/U as a fun gun. Blew 2 boxes of 7 1/2 and a box of 4 through it at various water jugs, cans, and scrap wood blocks. Thinking about finding a place to shoot clays, because this thing really reawakened my love of the scatter gun.

Enjoy your H&R. I found 20 gauge to be a lot of fun and hope the same for you.

Despite having several shotguns to choose from, I always turkey hunt with my 12ga 3" H&R. It just suits me best for the task.

Man, my shoulder hurts just thinking about shooting 3" Turkey loads out of a Handi-gun. ;)
I assume the brass looking thing is a caller, but whats it resting on?

You dont notice any recoil at all when theres a Tom turkey in your sights!
That's a slate call and plastic/wood striker....think fingernails on a blackboard... except sexy hen turkey sound

My turkey hunting arsenal consists of a Mossberg 9200 (preferred choice) and a Marlin 200, both 12 gauges. The Mossberg is a sweet shooter with it's gas system taking a lot of the sting out of the felt recoil. The Marlin is just the opposite but I still enjoy using it, provided of course I have my P.A.S.T. Shoulder Pad and a Limbsaver Slip-On Recoil Pad!

Are these single shots made to be taken apart. Other than then wood looks like it's all rivets or pins?
