Hi guys, I need some help. I live in MO and constantly travel to WI. I was so excited that WI finally got a CCW law, but was discouraged today when I learned that their new law does not have reciprocity with my MO permit. They only have reciprocity from these states:

Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands

My question is, from what one of those states can I get a CCW permit being a MO resident? If there is more than 1, which would you reccomend?

Thanks,

I would say be patient, I expect MO will be recognized fairly soon.

WI has a fairly loose requirements to recognize another states...seems the bigest is the other state must respond to WI's quiry for the other states law.

Read the WI law and you will see the requirements for recognition. (not reciprocity)

Get a Maine, Connecticut and then a Massachusetts. Those are the only state you are not legal in with your MO Permit/License. You can get the Main and CT by mail. Go to www.handgunlaw.us and click on Non Resident Permits in the left column. It will tell you how to obtain them. You have to make a trip to MA to get a MA non resident now and they are good for one year and cost $100. Be more like $200 after all the other things you have to do to apply for that $100.

PA non-resident is easy to get and cheap. Only downside is you have to go there to get it now. They just changed that this year. The other option is open carry. You'll want to confirm but as far as I've been able to determine, it's legal for non-residents to open carry there. Obviously you have the normal, can't be a felon, fugitive, illegal alien etc and you can't carry in a car.

His MO permit/License is valid in every state it is possible to get valid in except for Maine, CT and MA. He can carry in every other state that is possible for him. Any other Non Resident Permit/Licenses will just duplicate what MO already gives him. Maine does not accept any non residents permits from the states Maine Honors and CT and MA honor no other states permit/licenses.

Not according to your website, unless i'm reading it wrong. PA would give him Wisconsin, his MO permit does not. Did I miss something?

You are correct. I missed WI and missed him asking about WI. Sorry about that. His cheapest bet would be to get an AZ to cover WI if he needs WI. It can be done by mail. His MO training will be enough and he can do it by mail. He could go UT but then he has to have a class by a UT instructor.

But I would wait for a couple months. WI is still receiving info back from someof the states on their laws to see if they will honor them or not. I am not sure if they have heard from MO yet.

If it's just to add WI to your list, the Arizona permit might also be an option.

Not sure about in MO, but I got my UT CCW from a class at Gander Mtn in Springfield, IL. It's fairly simple to get and renew and at least much cheaper than FL's non-res. Might look into it.
