I Love My Wife

A couple weeks ago I took the CCW class, and largely because of that, my wife decided to take it too. However, she did comment after I was done with my class that, unless you're a prohibited possessor, there shouldn't be any permit required to carry open or concealed (a la Vermont/Alaska). After finishing the course this past Sunday (she passed the shooting qual on her first try despite being sick with the flu, and having barely shot handguns until the night before) she commented that she'd like to take a Tactical Pistol class together. As she said, what's the use in carrying a gun if you can't shoot accurately and quickly. She even wants to spend the money on better carry pieces and holsters for each of us.

She may not be as much of a gun nut as I've become, but at least she enjoys shooting, and fully respects the RKBA. Most importantly, she doesn't begrudge my interest in guns and shooting at all.

sumpnz - excellent - oh my that warms my old heart! You have a keeper there that's for sure and - know what - there is nothing much better (with clothes on ) than being able to share shooting and range time with a much loved wife.

I am overdue to take Mrs P95 for a range session but I look forward to it immensely. She has gotten to stage now of having her own CCW - she shoots very well but - practice is needed - and we will have I am sure a very pleasant couple of hours or so.

If it doesn't sound too ''mushy'' - (probably does!) - it is a very bonding experience.

Can't help too much with where to find 'em. Guess I just got lucky. Her dad, for all his faults (chiefly being absent for much of her childhood), did at least manage to instill a respect for guns and the right to own and use them. Her mom, though not at all into guns, also kept that respect alive.

I remember several Christmases ago he let us put dibs on one of his guns each. I chose the pre-64 M70 Featherweight, and my wife picked the .22lr rifle he taught her to shoot with (can't remember the make/model, but it was a semi-auto - he'd put one round in the mag at a time for her).

The only problem with going shooting together now is that we have to get a babysitter. But, our neighbor's 13 year old worked out well last Saturday so maybe that won't be quite such a problem. It'll be a few years before our daughter is old enough to keep eye and ear protection on, nevermind actually hold a gun.

My wife and I just to the Ohio CCW class together on April 16, and I was surprised she wanted to take it, but she said if I'm going to have a gun around, she wants to be a. safe with it, and b. legal if it's in the car and I'm not. Now, she's interested in getting a target gun, something like a Walther P22, though I think I can convince her a .380 would be better.

The only problem with going shooting together now is that we have to get a babysitter.

We don't have kids, but the only problem with shooting with her is she's a better shot than I am!

My wife and I have the same problem, in needing a babysitter if we want to go shooting together. BTW, one argument in requiring a certain level of training for a permit is that "you wouldn't trust the average person with a gun." My belief has always been that the vast majority of citizens that carry are responsible and safe and will seek out training because they want to, not because the state tells them they have to.

My wife and I took the NY CCW class together and have "hopscotched" each other in handgun purchases over the past couple of years. Though, through persistence, I'm winning in the number of handgun purchases. But not by much...

Erik - Yes she does, but you REALLY don't want to go there. Put it this way, my sister-in-law ain't allowed to own guns, and not because of a criminal record.

You're a lucky man, sumpnz! So am I. My wife isn't the gun buff that I am, but I trust her to watch my 6 with her Beretta 9mm.

Sounds like you have a keeper.

My wife isn't a gun nut either. She was neutral on it when we first got married (27 years now)..but finally after a few years of me going out shooting on my own, she asked to go when her cousin's husband went shooting.
After beating him in handguns...and he is a serious gun nut, she asked when my brother and I went shooting. She outshot him, and he is an ok gun nut.
My wife has tremendous hand and eye coordination and she is a natural. After picking her personal handgun and holsters, she goes out when I go with a new shooter that she hasn't shot against.
She just tells me that she wants to know if she can keep up her accuracy throughout all the years.
Funny. The icing on the cake? She asks me from time to time if I want to buy a new gun every year? The catch? If I get a new one..she gets new jewelry. Last few years, she wanted new guns though.
I think she's a keeper too.

I tried that but mine has high miles and keeps breaking down. Nobody would take her in trade.

Way to go!!! You do have a cool wife. I am not a into guns as much as my hubby is, but I do enjoy shooting as much as he does.
