i've been to davis-monthan afb, and getting up-close and personal with an a10 was by far my favorite part.
bad gun handling, i know, but i just had to stick my fingers in the bore of that 30mm!
my tour guide had worked on a10s during desert storm, and had stories of jets that had been shot to heck, but kept flying and made it back.
apparently there is a redundant manual backup for all the hydraulic controls, so even if your hydraulic lines were severed, you could manually (with some effort) keep control.
pretty impressive in design and aesthetics.

love the warthog!

I've heard that too. Even better than the original Thunderbolt, and more like the B-17, which probably holds the all-time record for surviving "impossible damage."

Read Flying Forts by Martin Caidin for some spectacular non-fiction.

Those pics and the videos I posted are likely one of the last public appearances of the Warthog up here in Fairbanks / Eielson since at the open house they held a ceremony of the deactivation of the 18th and 355th fighter squadron and formed the 18th Aggressor squadron composed of all F-16's.

An action by the pentagon since eielson was costly to operate

A-10's are gonna be outa here by the end of August i hear :(

I saw a Modern Marvels on it once. All of the pilots said they loved the fact you could feel the controls in your hand, rather than the controls going through a computer for permission first. It's a thing of beauty, and like the F-14, it'll be a sad day when they finally retire the last one.
