:confused::(
A friend of my wife's father recently passed away (80+ years old). He was broke when he passed. When going thru his stuff they found a pistol. She said it was a Remington .22 revolver. With it were papers of issuance to him as his service revolver from WWII. I can't confirm it was a Remington or a .22 but that is what she said. It was marked on the barrel US Government. I think he was in the Navy for 4 years then re-upped in the air force for 4 more years. Needless to say one of the sisters called LEO to get rid of this "menace" To his credit he said "sell it" rather than "taking it off their hands". Which they did to a pawn shop in Ft. Myers Fl area. $200.00. She said it looked "brand New" :(

Wish I could have had a chance....Again a day late and $200 short. but I had the $200.00:banghead::banghead::banghead:

I kind of doubt it was a Remington .22 revolver. If they tried to "give it" to the police as a "menace" ---- right there shows THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT FIREARMS.
It could have been a S&W or Colt .22 as they were in service with the Marksmen Units for competition etc.

You are correct she knew nothing about firearms.. To the sister it was "BAD BAD BAD" and should not exist, guns are EVIL, EVIL..... At least the other sister sold it rather than dumping it in the Inter-Coastal waterway. Maybe someone with knowledge will pick it up from the pawn shop and take care of it and let it live on. I also questioned the Remington brand, but all she knew was it was a .22 and thought it was Remington, but was not sure, but thought that's what it was.. I really wish I could have picked it up, I never thought to ask her before she went to clean out the house, I would be interested in any guns if they were found.

With the family's permission, find the pawn shop and report it as mistakenly sold (family heirloom) to them and see if they'll sell it back for whatever they paid...

Call them up! Find out their phone number and call the pawn shop in Florida! If you can get it for a price you find reasonable, pay their fees to send it to your local FFL. It'll cost you a bit more than $200, but if you really want the gun, it seems like it's possible to get it.

Every so often I get a family that wants to turn in a gun.

One time we had a family turn in a WWII bring back functioning Japanese Type 99 machine gun to be destroyed. We called our boss who called his buddy at the ATF and now its in a museum.
