My beautiful wife got my glock 19, sigs seem to bulky in hand for some reason, but I have always liked the(HK) as well as the sigs but have been turned off by there price, well I may have found a deal:new w/3 mags NS all the stuff, $595 or used(but some are unfired) with 2 used mags, most have NS, $495+tax either seem like good deals in comparison to what Ive seen them new. But never owned a HK I though they were overprices but this deal has me thinking, what are hk USP 9 like? are these as good of a deal as I think, Im just so use to my 19 but one of these may fill the gap nicely as my new carry gun. Last part what is a good defensive round, im currently carrying federal 147gr +P+

Sigs bulky?

That's different than how it feels to me. I find the USP compact 9mm bulky compared to a SIG or a Glock. It takes up more inside-the-waistband room on me.

I do shoot it better than any SIG or Glock I have owned. I can't figure out why. I don't like the way it looks, and I think the balance is weird. However, the results don't lie. The trigger feels flimsy and wobbly on the bench, but when shooting it works.

It conceals well (comparatively) in an outside-the-waistband holster. I like the ergonomics, apart from the balance. The high bore axis doesn't affect follow-up shots as much as I think it should.

I've not shot full-pressure +P+ 147gr in my USPc, but I have shot +P+ 115 gr and +P 135gr/124gr. No problems whatsoever with hundreds of rounds of those loads. I've never had a malfunction with it either. That may be because when I was shooting it heavily in practice I had to use lead-free factory ammo, so it was all decent quality.

Definitely shoot one first to make sure you don't hate it. I still get a weird 'ick' vibe off of mine, but it works too darn well to dismiss it.

I think you found a great deal. Mags are $40+ so keep that in mind with the guns you are looking at. Id buy new with the extra mag. I have a p2000 in 40, a usp 45, and a p30 in 9mm. HK's are great guns. Deadnuts reliable and good shooters. The DA trigger may take some getting used to, or just carry it cocked and locked. The usp may not be the most comfortable grip with all the new ergo grips out there now, but i dont think you can get a better, more solid poymer gun. And I paid 900 for my p30 and dont think its overpriced at all. They just work all the time. If you carry concealed, look into flat mag floorplates. They help in the concealing dept.

And I think sigs (226 & 229) are bulky too. I liked the single stack 220 enough to buy one though.

well, personally I like a Kahr CW9, with an extra mag, loaded with 127gr Hydrashock, or Win STHP 147gr.
superlight, super thin, accurate, reliable.. I now preferr it over the Taurus PT111SSP I carried prior.
either do great, but Ive become a better shot, and dont feel the need in my situations to compramise concealability, over capacity...

personally, Id feel a few different pistols oput if you can, at a range... find what draws well for you, n find what feels the most natural for you considering youre needs.

ip.

You won't be sorry with that HK, it's a sweet gun, and it will never let you down. (As for the bulkiness of Sig 226/229? I gotta agree, especially with the wood grips.)

to heck with all this advice stuff - where are they at that price; I'll take one.....

Kahrs are nice and coming from a glock it will be easy to learn. The Kahr will conceal better than the hk. If I could conceal my hk's Id carry them all year long. But in shorts and t shirts I would have to wear small of the back which I dont like, or am not used to yet. So I carry a 1911, which hides very easy strong side iwb. I can hide a government model if i really want to but prefer a 3 inch. I carry the HK's in the winter time.

500 for 2 mags and NS seems like a good deal to me. That's the final price though right? No tax+shipping+ffl fees?

Have you ever tried the p2000? It may feel even less bulky if that's what you're going for.

I've heard a lot of good things about speer gold dots and federal hydra-shoks.. but I only use FMJs cause I'm still in the plinking-only stage.

If you think a Sig is bulky then you don't want a USP.
They're even fatter gripped than a double stacked Sig.
Try shooting one and see if you like it.

I have two Sigs, a 228 and 225, and my carry load is the 125gr Speer Gold Dot +P.
I also carry 38 Special loads from Double Tap.

Ditto Jed re: the CZ!... but I'd also take a look/shoot at their CZ P-01...
Extremely ACCURATE, reliable and the best hand fit/ergo's out there... and you'll save yourself about $200+ from an HK!
This gun was made for CCW! My favorite pistola (along with my P229 and P6)!!

I just got a Kahr E9 and it now has 300 perfect rounds through it. It has a fantastic trigger and is really accurate. I just had to throw this in here since someone mentioned Kahr. It's small, all metal, and really nice. The CW9 is basically the same gun but polymer. Recoil in 9mm is really low for both E and CW9. E has been discontinued, but you can still find models out there.

At the price you found for the HK that P01 wont save much money. CZs have gone up alot in price. For good reason too, they are great guns. But not the bargain they used to be. I passed on a NIB for $350 several years ago. Still kicking myself for that. Now they are $550-600 in my area.

If you want polymer get the HK. If you want aluminum go CZ or Sig. If you want smaller get a Kahr.

I suspect you found my heads up someplace ;) ( I didnt know where to put it here)

yup those are my buddies guns from LEED in WA, I bought a "used" one that was unfired, AH dated, NS, unfilled Warantee card, fired shell case, box and all the stuff, $495 cant beat that with a stick. the 495 come with 2 used mags, the 595 comes with 3 new mags

these were trade in's from the WA DOC, they went to M&P's but these guns are NIB to slightly used, except more will be coming

if your looking for one, they have 50 or so, call 1 800 LEEDWAY, 10-6 PST

LEEDWAY is a HK Mil/Le dealer and HK Armorer in WA...as well as my best friends.

FYI, they are also Kahr dealers and they can sell Kahrs to non mil/le.

I may be in the store this afternoon, if you want one I can pick one for you, I got full run of the shop ;)

as for the HK USP compacts, I have one in 9mm, 40 and 45.....just love them, cant go wrong

That's nice to hear about HK's. I'm also excited to read/see that the M&P is being embraced by LE. My wife just picked the M&P compact 9mm for her gun, and i'm pretty impressed. I'm strongly considering going witht the M&P compact in .357 for my concealed carry gun.

H&K (IMHO) makes the best polymer combat/self defense handguns in the world. You won't find a more reliable pistol. I've owned several Glocks, XDs, and many more handguns out there today. H&Ks are my favorite. I just picked up this LNIB used stainless USP.40 Compact for $625 OTD. It replaced the black finished one I regrettably sold a few months ago:)

And with little brother P2000sk (9mm LEM):

I bought one a few months ago new and paid much more. It has become my favorite. I added Hogue grips as I have large hands, but carry owb with a light shirt and it remains well concealed.

It did take about a hundred rounds to get happy - but that was probably my fault for not oiling enough. Cleaned it again, oiled, and racked the slide a few hundred times as someone here or on another board recommended and everything is fine.

I am interested in the CZ PO1 however - I think we're going to trade my wife's Bersa for one. Everything I read about them is good as is with HK.
