thinking of getting a HK usp 40. its fullsize not compact. its under $500.

I have read sig p229 is more accurate. wouldnt mind getting sig p229 or p226 but they are out of my price range accept used and have not seen any good deals on used sigs in .40 or .357sig.

how does HK usp compare with glock, springfield XD,sig.

how is the chamber support?

do they have any known problems any kb's. can the safety lever be switched easily from left to right and vice versa?

H&K 40

mrapathy,

You can't go wrong with the H&K USP .40, particularly at that price! I own several H&K's including the compact .40 and 9mm, the USP in .45 and .40 and the new Elite in .45

All are exceptional firearms. I've never had a problem with any of the USP's but I did have a problem with the recoil system on the compacts. H&K listened and remidied the problem without any hassle and I've been problem fre ever since.

Good luck!

You need to buy it based on the price alone. I have a full size Hk USP 40. And I think they are the best made guns out there. IMO . I love the option of carrying it CnL. The only problem I have with them is accessories. Its kinda hard to find holsters & mags locally. I usually have to end up ordering them. Maybe you have better stores in yer area so that wont be a problem. Anyhoo, I recommend the HK more than any other gun.

I also have a USP40 and love it. I am a huge USP fan. My only complaint? It's not the .45

Reb,

I used to carry the USP but found it hard to conceal, particulary on my hip. It turned out that I was printing all the time!

That's why I went to the compact .40

PBR46 is right - the USP is not an easy gun to conceal. Makes a great house or truck gun, though. I use mine as a nightstand gun.

Hey, I think 10-ring is on to something!

At $500 buy ALL of 'em!! I'll take at least one!

In my opinion, the H&K is one of the only firearms I'd buy in .40 S&W caliber. It was designed specifically for it.

The SIGS I have fired in that caliber have been less accurate than the H&K's I've fired in .40. Small sample size, but true.

H&K compares very favorably with all of the guns you mentioned. In my (very biased) opinion, I'd put it in the top spot or in a tie for the top spot with SIG, then GLOCK, then XD (looks promising, but no long track record).

H&K's have kbed before, but what gun hasn't? This is not an issue with them.

The safety lever can be switched although H&K recommends that an armorer do that. I believe there is a web page out there that shows the steps for doing this.

For everyone who doesn't know where USP40 full size are under $500, look at the CDNN catalog. They have been listed in there as police trade ins for a while now. The one I got was essentially new. $469 with night sites. I believe $60 less without them. For both a nickel plated two tone and the regular blue one.

Just shot another 100 thru my USP9. Assorted FMJ, TMJ, teflon and plain lead...

It worked flawlessly, as usual, and more accurate than I could ever be...

If a boringly reliable firearm is what you want, you can't go wrong with the USP. At $500, it's a steal ;)
