today I pulled out my rem 770 to check its zero. I shoot all over the target ,not once did I hit the bullseye out of 12 rounds of 270.:fire: I had a fairly good rest it was steady, wind was at my back, cleaned it before I left the house:confused:. Last year I could hit a 1" square but now i can barely hit a 1' square:uhoh:! What is the deal? Any ideas welcome.

Scope loose? Innards broken? Not bedded with too much upward pressure at the foretip? Did you try shooting at 25 yards to see where it's hitting at?

Last time I saw anything similar a fellow had his scope mounted in Leupold rings; the front one twist into place and the rear grips the base. Seems the scope slipped under recoil and the rear ring wasn't aligned with the base.

To be clear. Did you get hits all over target? Or just not in black? IF the bullets hit in same area (even if far from black) its a adjustment issue. (maybe you forgot to recenter after adjusting for cross wind.)

If "shotgun" pattern. As said scope loose, undersized bullets. (unlikely unless reloads)

How secure is your storage? Is it possible someone handled the rifle without permission and dropped it? A broken mag release doesn't usually just happen. If the gun was dropped, maybe the scope was damaged internally...

Another vote for a scope mount issue. I went to shoot my muzzleloader before season and was getting eratic results. The bases were loose enough to se them move. I felt like an idiot, but got the problemb fixed.

I had the same issue with my brand new hunting rifle last year. Stupidly I let the gun store mount the scope for me. He took way too long to do it and had to ask a lot of questions of the senior guy which should have clued me in. I took it to the range and it was a shotgun pattern, rounds all over the place. I took it home and got 4-6 really easy turns on each of the screws in the scope rings. I then backed each one out one at a time, threadlocked them, and put them back in. Next trip to the range was a lot better!

GAAAHHH I just looked down at the gun and the mag release is broke now!

Well, stop throwing it down when you miss the bullsass! lol hehehehe

I'd bet your scope went 'code blue' on you! Something inside the scope more than likely gave up the ghost!

Try new optics, action screws torqued to the RIGHT specs as per Remington!

When you threw that thing against the barn, did the barrel get bent or the muzzle take a hit?
Rifles just don't start shooting bad from setting in the safe or cabinet, something went sour.

As the guys have mentioned...check all the screws, mounts and so on, nothing broken, cracked or loose...?
I have seen over tightened scope cap screws pop their heads off when a rifle was brought in from the cold and allowed to warm up to 70 or so degrees.

Let us know...and seriously, I'm just funnin' you with the throwing remarks! lol hehehehe

I just read a thread where a Poster said he saw a guy shooting a rifle with bad results. He and his buddy were shooting the 100yd gong with .22 pistols (heavy barrel Rugers IIRC) and as they had done this every time they go to range have the hold over close. One got 8 out of 10 (looser buys dinner) and they heard a "whap whap whoop" sound. It was the guys rifle he flung downrange. Was that YOU? :) :)
