I apparently have a problem. I have had a recent re-attraction to the Coonan. Most of you wouldn't consider that a problem, but it tends to be for me, with a recent move behind me and an already-considerable pile of weaponry. If I do end up acquiring one, it won't be for months to come.

For those who have/had a Coonan, will it fit into a standard 1911 holster or would one have to be made?

Does it shoot .38 Specials reliably? These would likely be the bulk of the rounds fired out of one if I were to buy.

Curse you evil Coonan! Why must you be so intriguing to me?:cuss::banghead:

I don't own one, but with the full length dust cover it would require a holster with a light rail.. ( I own a LB Monolith which has the same type dustcover)

You could always sell one of yours to fund it. Say that M1 Garand would fit nicely in my hands!:D :what::neener:

My understanding is that you might need a lighter recoil spring for it to cycle. Kind of like a light reload. But they are suppose to feed, fit and fire.

It would seem to me that perhaps an open-bottom holster might also work, but I'm not sure. I know my AMT Javelina goes in my regular holsters just fine, but off the top of my head, I can't remember how long the dust cover is.

As far as changing parts out to shoot different ammo, that's not a problem at all. And no, Wreck-n-Crew, you are not getting my M1!:D

El Paso Saddlery can make a closed-end holster for the Coonan. Any of the "slide" holsters where the French cut hangs out past the bottom of the holster should also work.

I couldn't afford it right now anyhow and I would not want to see you get rid of it because you would be so sick after doing so. Moping around kicking rocks, depression, not a good thing....lol

I just put one on lawaway yesterday, I'll have it in about two weeks. I've always wanted one, and I was able to shoot one on three occasions before.

Last year when I heard that my LGS was getting three and putting one in their rental section I was there promptly to try it out, I think I was the first person to rent it besides staff. I shot 50 357s through it with no problems, then I had them swap it for the .38 special springs. It would fire fine, the slide would cycle, but the case would not be ejected. The owner said that his personal one did the same thing and needed to be broken in a little bit, he gave me another box of 357s and then passed it around to some LEOs that were training at the range. About a week later I had aquired a ruger SP101 so I was back at the range and ended up renting it again, .38s were working smooth as butter.

It says on the Coonan website that you need to shoot .357s to break in the gun before the .38s cycle reliably.

Um...singular pistols kinda require Singular Holsters...

When ya think about it, holsters tend to be the least expensive accessory...
unless you get custom-tooled leather...

I find that thinking REALLY hurts, so I try not to do it often.:D I have several different styles of 1911 and I use the same holster for all of them currently. I keep a holster attached to my belt - gun or no gun - pretty much all the time and don't often change it out unless the weather changes.

I think the Coonan would make an excellent tac/close in CQB combat option for urban operators.

If it were me I'd switch the grips to the black aluminum panels offered on the Coonan website and duracoat the stainless components in OD green, or coyote brown.

Loaded with full power .357 magnum rounds it would have excellent barrier defeating capabilities and might be able to deal with light armor at close range.

Basically what I'm saying is, I'm in the market too!

The Silhouette would probably work, but I'll have to find something that doesn't sit so high above my belt. Well, I guess FIRST I need to get the gun!
