2A996ABD-0E65-4745-B76F-09A2FDC882A9.jpeg Today is my birthday and my present finally got to come out of the safe to play. It’s a Chipmunk Hunter pistol 22lr, blued, with blue laminate stock. It originally was a walnut stock, but it had some dry spots in the finish and the fine folks at KSA sent me a replacement stock and a return label for the original stock, and when I mentioned paying the difference for the blue stock they just swapped it on the order form and moved right along. I’m thrilled with it. I only put about 30 super colibri and a dozen or so CCI quiets through it with some informal plinking with some old paint cans in the back yard. I have a 22 spinner target and I need to adjust the sights before I move away from the biggest one, but it’s pretty consistent at 30 yards. I could have kept shooting but I stopped to watch a big fat red fox play in the woods behind my target until it got dark. Oops, forgot the pic so edit... pic is from when it came in. Too dark to fool with pictures tonight.

I like the look of that stock. I would think about getting one if I didn't already have an old Contender with a 10" barrel. That takes care of my 22lr single shot needs.

I was thinking of skipping this and buying a contender barrel, but this whole gun was cheaper than a contender barrel, and I am a lot happier with it that I would be with a contender barrel.

Just learned that the Cricket Hunter is available in 22 magnum. When they are in stock again (probably be a while) I may get one. I like the cartridge and would like to see how much accuracy I can wring out of it using a rest. It would make for a pleasant plinking day at the range.

Seems like a lot of bolt for a .22? When I first saw it I thought it was a centerfire. I understand the appeal for some of us as
I used to have a Ruger Charger.

One thing I like about that pistol, and I also liked about the Savage Styker that I owned, s lefthanded bolt for a right handed shooter is ideal to me in a pistol.

Was your stryker rimfire or centerfire? I have one of each. The 22-250 is a literal hand cannon, while the 22mag has virtually no recoil. Unlike the cricket, the savage has a normal right handed action, but a left side bolt. This isnt a big deal for the DM fed 22 mag, but the internal mag 22-250 is easier for me to load having a right handed action. You can get very quick follow-up shots with the off-hand bolt lever.

OP, I dig the new gun! Stock is cool.

Centerfire, 300WSM. Oddly, recoil was not all that bad. The noise made me sell it. Even with the muzzle break closed off, foam earplugs and shooting muffs, my ears would ring and it actually hurt my ears to shoot. Kept it for 1 hunting season, took a nice 6 point buck at 90 yards. Sold it shortly after that. My buddy has one in 7mm-08, much less muzzle blast.
