So I was at the LGS today with the intention of picking up a .38 special revolver, the Taurus 85 poly protector. Well, they were sold out after having a sale last week, and the gun was on back order. The only other wheel guns that were even remotely compact were .327 Federal Magnum, which is an expensive cartridge even in good times. And though lightweight, compact it was not.
Feeling kinda bummed, I checked out what else they had in the lightweight compact realm for concealed carry.
Not much, rather slim pickings. I passed over the purple LCP, and the KelTec .32, and a the micro .22lr offerings and saw a Beretta 9000s in the used case.
After handling it, it is about the same size and weight as my S&W 469, but a little smaller and lighter, but not by much. Another double stack wonder 9 was not really what I was looking for.
As I was handling the Beretta, a used Taurus 709s was being put into the case.
So I grabbed it. They are selling it new, unfired. The previous owner did not have the strength to work the slide. So it's brand new, with a used price tag.
I asked myself, have I struck pay dirt? Brand new, slim, compact, lightweight and in a caliber I already stock?
As I was just killing time waiting for someone to sell some old collector items (to fund a new CCW, as it turns out) I did not have any cash on me to put the Taurus on layaway.
Keeping my fingers crossed that it will still be there in half an hour.
