.......a Kahr PM9 in the black diamond kote w/ nitesights.
One of the employees pulled a target from the back using his, and at 10 yards; very impressive. Trigger was smooth, very nice, slim, and light.
Right now I have mainly full size guns. Sigs, 1-HK, & 1-1911. I have a S&W 642 to use once I get my CHL, but would also like something else. This Kahr may be just the ticket. Loaded up with 127 gr. Rangers, it should be more than adequate. Hey, it's not a .45, but it also weighs only 15 ounces unloaded.
This thing would carry great in a Sparks VMII, SS, or an Alessi Talon.

Anyone else have comments on this nice gun?

My Father In Law carries a Kahr P40. I carried a K9 for quite a while. Can't go wrong with Kahr. My K9 was my first auto loader.

GREAT guns, but don’t rule out the Kahr P9 Covert:

Great thing about the "Covert" models is they don't seem to be in that big of demand so they tend to be cheaper. Plus you get the extra bit of velocity from the longer barrel and the longer sight radius.

I miss my MK40 and will have to replace it someday, but this time 'round I think I'll also keep an eye out fro a K40 Covert.

I stumbled on my K40 Covert accidentally. It was my first cool weather carry gun but is now retired already. I should shoot it more often though...

I have a covert as well. It's my hot weather gun. The extra barrel length is nice for the sight radius and velocity. The butt of a CCW piece is the only part you really work to conceal which makes the covert the best of both worlds. In reasonable shorts it will even work as a pocket piece.

Cheers,
Mike.

Greg,
I have thought seriously about a PM9 but I don't think I could replace my 239 no matter how nice the Kahr is. If you haven't tried the little Sig I suggest you at least rent one to put some rounds through it.

Michigun: That's a great idea about the Covert. It did seem like it was alot cheaper. The PM9 was $672 with nightsites. I think the Covert without them was almost $150 or so cheaper.

Rinspeed: I used to own a 239 in .40. It was an ok gun, but just not for me.
Everyone has different likes I guess.
I'm a big fan of Sigs tho as I currently own a 226 and a 229.

If you care to read Greg45, here are a few of my past thoughts on the Covert posted on some other boards:

“I still think the Kahr P9 Covert is the best all-around CCW gun out there, that is if you only want or are only going to get/own one gun. Small/thin enough for pocket carry (with 6-round flush fitting mag) & large enough for belt carry. (with 7-round grip extending mag) The sight plain/radius is adequate on the Covert (same as the K9’s & P9’s) & the Kahr offers you everything you’d expect to find on a good defensive gun, in other words… real sights with plenty of sight options out there, a real mag release/slide catch, no manual safety, the same trigger pull from start to finish & a low bore axis… all that & light weight to boot! The Covert can do everything the P9 & the PM9 can, but neither the PM9 nor the P9 can act like the other.â€

---------------------

“I agree with Ascaris’s above post… I’ll add that I find that the P9 Covert actually conceals better with pocket carry over my PM9. The longer slide is no harder to conceal & makes the Covert’s grip sit higher in the pocket, which allows it to blend in a bit better.

All that & when the 7-round “grip extender†mag is installed in the Covert you basically have a regular P9 now.

I think the Covert is the most overlooked Kahr out there when it should really be their bestseller! (Which it is not according to Kahr… they tell me it really never took off. They said it didn’t help the Covert that the PM9 was released just after it either, which is probably the #1 cause.) The Covert can ‘act’ just like the PM9 then turn around & ‘act’ just like the P9… neither of those 2 (PM9 & P9) Kahrs can really ‘act’ like the other however.â€

My reply back:

“1oz isn't much when you get down to it... for instance, seven 147-grain Gold-Dots weigh .5oz more then seven 115-grain Gold-Dots. In other words, if I load my Covert up with seven 100-grain Pow’R’Balls & you load your PM9 up with seven 147-grain Gold-Dots, my Covert will weigh the same as yours, if not less.

The Covert is 0.7 inches longer then the PM9 is all.

YMMV, but the grip of my PM9 prints worst in my pocket then the grip of my Covert does… the Covert doesn’t sit high enough to be able to see the top of the grip in my pocket.

I am more accurate with my Covert then I am with my PM9… after some testing I find the PM9’s shorter ‘sight plain’ is to blame for myself. Again, YMMV.

By the way, I'm not knocking the PM9... I purchased one of those before I got the P9 Covert. It was only later on that I found I both shot & concealed better with the Covert. I just think the Covert gets verlooked too much when it shouldn't. It's a nice gun that can do things the PM9 & the P9 can't do all that well.â€
